Dozens of Kansas senior prospects have already committed or signed to play college ball next season, including a haul of seven top prospects by Butler Community College. In the first of a series on top ranked players still available I will start with the top 5 ranked post players.
Maja Komaszynska Maja Komaszynska 6'1" | PF Life Prep | 2024 State KS , 6’1″, PF, Life Prep Academy – Komaszynska is the lone post player in the top 20 who is unsigned. Recently spotted by PGH scout Bret Swanson in South Carolina at The League Finals, she was held in check a bit by tough national competition. But that does not diminish her abilities. His report merely tells me she was a focal point of other teams to stop. Komaszynska has good size, length and strength. She is a very good all-around player who can play the point forward position. She handles solidly, finishes athletically out her face-up and back-to-basket games, and uses her floor smarts to direct traffic. She also takes the occasional three.
Jaden Wilson Jaden Wilson 5'11" | PF Derby | 2024 State KS , 5’11”, PF, Derby – Wilson has attracted substantial, and vastly overdue, JUCO division 1 interest and has picked up a couple offers. She has a good frame, length, and a diverse offensive game. With her speed and quick feet she scores around the rim in a variety of ways including with a runner and off baseline drives. She pulls up for a jumper well in transition as well. On the glass and defensively she just flat competes. Nothing ever comes easy for opponents. And off the defensive rebound Wilson is always a end-to-end threat.
Aleah Moree Aleah Moree 6'2" | C Winfield | 2024 State KS , 6’2″, C, Winfield – Moree is a multiple year Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Division III and KBCA 4A all-state selection. Over the years several PGH scouts have had the pleasure of seeing her play. And while she had a rough summer this past year she is regarded as a strong rim protector and defender down low. She has great size, moves well laterally, and runs the floor better than better than most players of her size. She has not reached her potential though and could really explode with the stronger positional coaching she would receive at the next level. Moree is strong, rebounds well, has good footwork and mobility, and can score with a variety of block moves with either hand. And with opponents hanging all over her. Not just a power player, Moree plays with finesse as well with a good touch on her shot.
Makenzie Galliart Makenzie Galliart 6'0" | PF Blue Valley Weat | 2024 State KS , 6’0″, PF, Blue Valley West – Galliart was a Eastern Kansas League selection in 2023. This past August my colleague Jeremy Deckard was able to watch her in a scrimmage against Hayden. He described her as “a beast” and that she “is the type of player who completes the tasks that it takes a team to win, but that won’t show up on the box score.” He reported that she runs the floor extremely well and finds teammates well in transition and in the half-court. Extremely physical, he said “Watching her and Sandstrom work to defend each other during the scrimmage portion would have been worth the price of admission (had there been one).” She has attracted offers and interest from NAIA and JUCO Division I teams.
Ava O’Brien Ava O’Brien 5'11" | PF De Soto | 2024 State KS , 5’11”, PF/C, De Soto – I have had the opportunity to watch O’Brien play a couple of times over the past few years, most recently at the end of July. A big strong post with length who passes well from the wing to cutters she has a lane clogging frame. My colleague Jeremy Deckard wrote earlier this month that “O’Brien was my favorite player to watch for the Wildcats.” He called her a “true post player who knows how to create space and guard on the interior” and that nobody “works harder on the offensive and defensive glass.” While she is currently ranked #147 O’Brien will appear much higher in the final 2024 class update to be released in March.
Author’s Note: Post publication I learned the terrific Iniya Hinman Iniya Hinman 5'9" | PF Parsons | 2024 State KS of Parsons did not play this season. I have removed my write-up to add De Soto’s Ava O’Brien Ava O’Brien 5'11" | PF De Soto | 2024 State KS .
