From far west in Shelby Co. to the tips that touch the edge of VA, this state is home to rich basketball women’s talent. Unfortunately, not all kids who hoop continue their education in Tennessee, but our style of play spreads throughout the country and intertwines with other styles. To get a Tennessee girl on your roster speaks volumes because we just do it right here.
Each year, six winners are up for the almighty Miss Tennessee award. Given to the best player in each prospective class, these young ladies have set the standard of basketball excellence during the past high school season. Not all have one a team championship, but have built up an impressive resume displaying individual excellence. To go down in history as one of the best in the state, there are very feww who reach this prestigious award.
On March 12th, the sports committee honored six distinguished women with this amazing award. Here are the 2023-24 winners who were named Tennessee’s best in their respective classes.
Division II 1A
Haylen Ayers (6’0/Fr./G/ USJ)– She has arrived. One of the best young ladies in the country as a freshman ball player, has had a tremendous year winning a state title and adding this prestigious award to her trophy case. This multi-level scoring threat is a dominant bulldog on the floor. A phenomenal two-way player who can do all things. Offensively, she can spot up, take you off the dribble, and finish around the rim. Defensively, she has incredible length that takes away passing lanes, prods balls away, and she’s big on the boards. Schools are after her from all over, but she’s going to obviously take her time throughout the recruiting process. An exceptional talent that will be around for 3 more years. Look for her to build upon this incredible career she has had thus far.
Division II AA
Sydney Mains Sydney Mains 5'11" | SF Knoxville Catholic | 2024 State TN (5’10/Sr./G/ Knoxville Catholic)– The FAU signee had a phenomenal high school career. A multi-level scoring threat who put the ball in the hoop at a consistent clip. Her career consists of multiple state titles, school scoring records, and much much more. She is an exceptional teammate who places emphasis on the collective rather than herself. She stepped up in big time moments and displayed a relentless work ethic both on and off the floor. This kid has the mentality of a Diana Taurasi. No joke, the kid gets after it. Sydney is a true hooper and when the game tipped off, she was always locked in. A great kid who will go on to do big things at the next level.
Class 1A
Savannah Davis Savannah Davis 5'9" | SG McKenzie | 2024 State TN (5’9/Sr./G/ McKenzie)– The future Lady Blue Raider is a phenomenal scoring threat. She can fill it up from anywhere on the court. A tough competitor who had a sensational high school career where she not only won ball games, but also left a mark on an entire community. Savannah is a relentless worker who competes on both ends of the floor. A student of the game, she exploits an opponent’s weakness and uses it to her advantage. Savannah is the all time TSSAA 3-point record holder. She’s going to fit well in the MTSU offense and be an intricate part of their attack. The Insell family got a steal in this young lady and she is going to take the next level by storm.
Class 2A
Micah Hart Micah Hart 5'7" | PG Gibson Co. | 2024 State TN (5’9/Sr./G/ Gibson Co.)– A true winner. A classic hard working basketball player, Micah leaves the high school scene with titles and accolades. A 3 level scoring threat who is a pure floor general and a tireless worker. She’s a two way player who competes from tip-off to the final whistle. A selfless player, she did whatever it took to help propel her team towards a victory. Never shying away from a challenge, Micah always stepped her game up. She leaves the Gibson Co. grounds as one of the top 3 scorers in school history.
Class 3A
Celeste Reed Celeste Reed 5'11" | C White Co. | 2024 State TN (6’0/Sr./F/ White Co.)– Damage control. Warning. Warning. Warning. Celeste was a walking double-double player many nights her team played. A tough competitor who inflicted pain on the competition. A beast around the painted area, she was an x factor for her ball club. Celeste was a huge part of her team’s success. Displayed great footwork around the blocks, big on put backs and second chance opportunities for her team. A very tireless worker who just rolled up her sleeves and got after it. A deserving honoree who really put the work in to uplift her ballclub to new heights.
Class 4A
Imari Berry Imari Berry 5'10" | SG Clarksville | 2024 State TN (5 ’10/Sr./CG/ Clarksville) Third time’s a charm and this Clemson signee finally has won the award. A tough dual threat player, she is hard to deal with on both ends of the court. She can fill it up at a high clip, has nice handles, and bounce in her game. What I like about her too is she competes on the defensive side of the ball, making it hard for opponents to operate. Imari has great length and is a stellar athlete. A McDonald’s All-American, her talent is beyond measure. She leaves the Clarksville community as one of the top kids in the city. I’m excited to see her go on to play at the next level. She brings athleticism , scoring ability, and so much more to a hungry Clemson Tiger program. Great kid who will go on and do great things at the next level.
