Teams can see the Breslin Center within their reach and there are some great team matchups with superstar players ready to tip of tonight. We’re going to look at a Game Of The Night for Division 1 and Division 2, including a player to watch from each team.
DIVISION 1: DETROIT RENAISSANCE VS. WEST BLOOMFIELD (Bloomfield Hills Marian, 7PM)
Quite simply, these are 2 of the best teams in the state. Both hold state champion type talent and this could be an instant classic. The teams come in with a combined record of 43-4.
Key Players:
Anaya Hardy Anaya Hardy 6'4" | SF Detroit Renaissance | 2024 State MI (Detroit Renaissance) – Hardy is a special talent, the type that can put a team on her back and lead them to a state title. She won’t have to do that as she has some elite teammates as well, but her ability score from anywhere on the floor and control the glass could go a long ways to determining the winner of this game.
Destiny Washington Destiny Washington 5'6" | PG West Bloomfield | 2024 State MI (West Bloomfield) – You were probably looking for the last name of Davis here weren’t you? Well, of course they’ll have a huge influence in the game, but I decided to go with the X factor. Washington is one of the most underrated guards in the state. Her influence on the game will go well beyond what the stat sheet says.
DIVISION 2: GRAND RAPIDS SOUTH CHRISTIAN VS. OTSEGO (Hopkins, 7PM)
This game looks like a great matchup on paper. They come in with similar records, South Christian at 14-10 and Otsego at 14-9. They both come into the game with exciting young talent and seem to be programs on the rise.
Key Players:
Lizzie Wolthuis Lizzie Wolthuis 6'0" | SG South Christian | 2026 State MI (Grand Rapids South Christian) – Wolthuis has been a matchup nightmare this season. She’s a real problem for opponents with her height, length, ball skills and jumper.
Brooke Smalldon (Otsego) – We mentioned matchup nightmare with Wolthuis and the same can be said of Smalldon. She’s an exciting and versatile freshman prospect. Smalldon is a points and rebounds double-double threat on a nightly basis.
