Woodgrove defeated Hampton by 10 in the class 4 title game, and Amaya Ramey Amaya Ramey 5’9″ | SG Woodgrove HS | 2027 State VA was easily the story of this game. Amaya had the most impressive performance of the day. She dominated the glass and turned a handful of offensive rebounds into points. Amaya had a huge three to stretch Woodgrove’s lead to 9 with 5 minutes left after a Hampton run. She made a lot of other big shots, and she finished with a game-high 26 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. Amaya has been productive her whole freshman year, but for people who haven’t had the chance to watch Woodgrove, this was a coming-out party for her on a huge stage.
Kaliya Perry Kaliya Perry 6’0″ | PF Hampton | 2025 State VA had a terrific game against Woodgrove on both ends. Her defense was excellent all game. She used her length exceptionally well to disrupt Woodgrove’s offense. Kaliya rebounded the ball well and got her offense going in the second half. I loved Kaliya’s energy, and she played as hard as anyone on the day. Her ability to handle the ball at her size makes her challenging to stop, especially in the mid-range area. She finished with 19 points and 17 rebounds.
Meridian fell to Liberty Christian in the Class 3 state championship in a low-scoring and extremely close game. The matchup of the game was the battle between the two bigs. Maureen Tremblay Maureen Tremblay 6’0″ | PF Meridian | 2024 State VA was Meridian’s best player on the day. She was terrific on the glass and forced Liberty Christian into tough shots in the paint. She had her hands in passing lanes, making life difficult for a usually hard-to-stop Liberty Christian offense. Maureen knocked down 3 threes and had some excellent finishes. Maureen finished with 15 points, 15 rebounds, and 5 steals.
Highlights
The other side of this outstanding big matchup was Liberty Christian’s Emmy Stout Emmy Stout 6’2″ | C Liberty Christian | 2024 State VA . Emmy dominated the offensive glass, and even though she missed a lot of shots she usually makes around the rim, she made up for it with all the second-chance opportunities she had. Emmy had a nice day at the foul line as well. Emmy is one of the best shot blockers in the state, and she had 4 of those today. She finished with a monster stat line of 16 points, 23 rebounds, and 4 blocks.
Avery Mills Avery Mills 5’8″ | CG Liberty Christian Academy | 2024 State VA had about as bad a shooting performance as she’s had all year. I was impressed that she never lacked confidence and came up clutch for Liberty Christian. Liberty Christian was down 10 in the fourth quarter, and a few big shots by Avery, along with her late-game FTs, were huge in them winning this game. Avery finished with 23 points and 5 rebounds to cap Liberty’s 27-0 season.
