Turner played heads up defense to help cause turnovers and that helped to change the momentum a few times. Her court vision was solid, both in the set as well as in transition and she overpowered guards around the basket as well as off the dribble. I also enjoyed watching her outrebound taller players by understanding how to get positioning
Highlights
Brothers was one of many athletic guards at the event that understands how to use their athleticism to their advantage, on both ends of the court. Her first step was nice as she got by the defender numerous times but her finishing strongly, sometimes after the lick was a plus, yet her body control played a part in that. She also applied solid “on the ball” pressure
Highlights
Wright did a lot of things right starting with doing something I love to see and that’s “playing the passing lane”. She’s also long and athletic, one more time, that is the base and her timing to block, alter and (or) deflect shots was solid, and so was her interior defense. She also stepped outside the paint to defend, hit the boards on both ends and scored off the dribble
Arnold is an athletic guard, you know what’s next, that brought heat on both ends. She also falls into that hashtag I love to use, #sizedontmatter, because she can play. Her DESIRE to apply “on the pressure” immediately grabbed my attention as she stayed with her man baseline baseline but she also showed she could score off the dribble as well as from outside
Highlights
Washington gets the #THROWBACK for playing taller than she is to outrebound taller players. Part of that is her understanding how to get position under the basket and another part is her WANTING it, which showed as she went AFTA everything off the rim, on both ends. She used her frame inside the paint to score and did a good job defending in the interior
Batey did a good job of creating her shot under pressure to either show the jumper, which she knocked down while being defended, or attacking the basket, her deceptive first step played a part in that. She took good shots and played within herself yet she also understands how to get hers “in the flow” Her court vision was sold, so was her defense
Cameron Kelly
Cameron Kelly
Kelly showed a variety of moves to set the defender up and her ability to get past them to attack the basket and finish using solid body control was nice. She also understands how to create spacing and get her shot off, which she knocked down from mid to long-range and yet she did me one better by showing she could “catch and shoot” it from long distance
E’ylse Williams
E’ylse Williams
Williams was another #sizedontmatter guard that brough IT on both ends. She applied baseline to baseline pressure “on the ball” and played the passing lane, both of which caused turnovers yet her scoring off the dribble and acrobatic finishes using solid body control had me smiling, especially when she finished after contact
Ambreal Tenner
Ambreal Tenner
Tenner understands how to set the defender up to score off the dribble as well as drop the jumper. She did a good job handling the ball under pressure and showed good court vision in the set as well as in transition. Her defense was solid, she used her quick hands a few times to pick some pockets and she went after loose balls
