For those who don’t know or comprehend my reasoning, I have to see the player so I must have a roster, especially at a large tournament because I don’t have to seek out information as I try and cover as many players as I can. I’m not a novice, I know what I’m looking at and it doesn’t take me forever to recognize next-level potential so with that being said, here are the new names
Cox is 6’5, strong, agile and athletic and thinking about the first time I caught her at the HCC Camp last season, to say she left a lasting first impression would be an understatement. She’s powerful in the paint, on both ends and her physicality is next level ready, so is her going after the ball relentlessly, on both ends yet her upside hasn’t been tapped to the fullest, which is scary, well for defenders
Nelson put her team on her back during the playoffs and showed she was being added as my exact words were “she punched her ticket”. She’s long and athletic, which is the base and when you factor in her height tom go along with that, as well as her ability to score off the dribble and drop it from outside, all are big yet so is her timing to block shots and play the passing lane
Cook was another playoff star that showed a phrase I don’t just throw out there, “a nightmare to defend” and here’s why. Her first step is very nice and that kept the defender guessing because she also did a good job creating her shot and knocking it down with a hand in her face. Factor in she wants the ball down the stretch in clutch situations and unlike my lost mail, she delivers. Her court vision as well as defense are also nice
Jones had me thinking about the first time I saw her in middle school and I knew se was on to something. The article I linked was from last July yet her continuous on the court progression to go with her size and power will attract many next level coaches. Her hands and footwork, as well as scoring around the basket, putbacks included, are nice but so so is her rebounding, on both end and defending in and outside the paint
McGarity has me changing the last name from one of favorite television series to “book em McGarity”. Not sure if it will catch on both her “catch and shoot” from all over the court certainly will and she sets the defender up so smoothly to create spacing, it’s nice to watch her elevate and release. She also showed the stop and pop in transition, mid to long-range and scored off the dribble
Highlights
Perry did enough at The Prime Event to let me know she had to be added. She’s long and athletic and stands above “the magic number” which is 6’0, yet the magic happens on both ends of the court. I love her energy and seeing her come out of nowhere to block shots had me smiling, so did her going after everything off the rim. She scored around the basket, as well as off the dribble and she will definitely raise some eyebrows
