The WNBA draft is next week, and we are two weeks away from the first live period of the travel ball season. As the girls get settled in with their travel ball clubs, some squads went down to Birmingham, AL for the Heat Ball Showdown showcase. At the event, we had over eighty young ladies from the state of Tennessee to showcase their talent and get ready for the upcoming season.
Hosted at Huffman High School and Academy, this event was lit right from the start. The music was right. The crowd was hyped. The girls from TN were ready to put on a show. I get it, you get that cabin fever, and you could tell the girls were ready to compete against other competition they haven’t seen before.
Here are some young ladies who brought the heat at the Heat Ball Showcase.
Lily Morrow Lily Morrow 5'11" | SG CPA | 2026 State TN (5’11/ So./ G/ CPA)– Locked and loaded, as the games went on this young lady got better. It was like someone woke up a sleeping giant cause Morrow was getting buckets. She was killing it in the paint, unleashing it from the arc, and if a girl tried to get at her on the offensive end, she answered right back. Lily is a poised athlete that plays with a chip on her shoulder. When she gets going, she’s hard to stop.
Jade Watson Jade Watson 5'7" | PG Rockvale | 2027 TN (5’6/Fr./G/ Rockvale)– Shifty guard who has great court vision. What I like about Jade is that she understands the different situations and can utilize her speed to exploit a weakness in the defense. She can shoot the 3 ball, but slicing through the D is one of her best attributes. She was hard to stop this weekend as her offensive abilities and defensive prowess was on display.
Maren Brasel (5’5/8th Grader/G/ Brentwood Middle)– Her confidence was written all over her face as she played aggressively and with poise. She shot the ball from the arc and hit the bottom of the net at a consistent clip. When her team needed a bucket, this young lady rose to the challenge, unleashing her deadly shot. When the opposition tried to run her off the line, she was able to get a paint touch for a timely dish. She’s an exciting prospect who will be lighting up the TN scene for years to come.
Jada Davis Jada Davis 5'8" | PF Cleveland Middle | 2028 TN (5’8/ 8th Grader/F/ Cleveland Middle)– Solid ball player who plays tenacious defense. She causes chaos on the floor, guarding the other team’s toughest player. Offensive, she can knock it down from 3 or finish at the rim through contact. Smooth ball player who is comfortable anywhere on the floor.
Ava Zenner Ava Zenner 5'7" | PG Franklin Road Academy | 2028 TN (5’7/ Fr./ PG/ FRA)– Pacesetter for her ball club, this young lady plays the game with poise and passion. A selfless ball player who can distribute the rock with ease and go get a bucket when it is needed. Has amazing court vision. Can sit down and lock up on D. This kid is a solid prospect who will continue to make noise. She’s a gym rat who gets better every time she steps onto the floor.
Amaya Nash Amaya Nash 5'6" | SG Oakland | 2026 State TN (5’8/So./ G/ Oakland)– Tough kid who goes out and just plays. I love her ability to get to the rim. She can shoot it from the outside, but won’t hesitate to go challenge someone in the paint unleashing a bevy of moves to get to the cup. Plays solid D, where she can poke and prod balls away from offensive players. Has a great feel for the game and will jump passing lanes to kill that possession for a club. She’s a hard working prospect who competes from tip to finish.
Kayte Madison Bjornstad Kayte Madison Bjornstad 6'1" | C Franklin Road Christian School | 2026 State TN (6’1/ So./ C/ PCA)– A true big who is solid on both ends of the floor. Has grown tremendously over the course of the year. She’s an anchor in the paint on D, where she owns the boards and blocks shots. Offensively, she tough on the blocks, using her body to drop step in finish at the rim. She has a nice mid range game too where she used it in the pick n’ roll action. KM just seems to get better and better. She’s a solid big who is hard to handle.
Isa Gelbard (5’9/ 8th Grader/ G/ Harpeth Hall)– This kid is a ball player who loves the game. A tenacious defender who just competes. Has nice size and length on her build, which enables her to cause disruption. She was used to slam the door on traps, getting tips and steals with ease. Offensively, she is the aggressor, getting down hill and finishing at the rim. Don’t get me wrong, she has a nice shot from 3, but if her momentum is going towards that cup, she’s money. Solid prospect who will help HH right away.
Jayda Madison (5’5/8th Grader/G/ Northeast Middle)– Intriguing prospect who seems to get better every time she steps onto the floor. Plays tenacious defense, hustles everywhere. She’s on the floor for loose balls, contributes on the boards.. Can score it in the paint or from deep. Had a solid weekend where she just seemed to always come alive in big time moments. Her confidence was growing and every time her number was called, she came out and delivered. Solid prospect who will continue to grow over time.
