Some new names emerged and familiar high school season standouts showed their skills on the hardwood. Here is the first group of 2025s who grabbed my attention on Saturday.
Jocelyn Kotowicz Jocelyn Kotowicz 5’6″ | SG St. John’s | 2025 State MI played effectively for the Naturals on both ends of the court Saturday at the April Showers Classic. She is a strong and powerful guard/wing who displays great effort to rebound and defend any position. Jocelyn showed her scoring touch by knocking down a mid-range jumper and then drilling a corner 3. She is a prospect I will look forward to seeing again this spring (MOI Exercise Science).

Natalie Hensel Natalie Hensel 5’11” | PF Pennfield | 2025 State MI played effectively for the Naturals offensively at the April Showers Classic on Saturday. She showed her ability to seal with her back to the basket and score on a difficult angle with a right floater. Natalie worked inside for offensive rebounds, scoring on a put back; she hit two free throws with a pure stroke. Natalie drove hard downhill to the basket and converted a layup through contact. I had to wait a minute to take her picture because she wanted to go talk to her teammates, that was an impressive act of selflessness/humility. She will be a prospect to watch more of this spring (MOI Environmental Science).

Tess Kapelke Tess Kapelke 5’9″ | SF St Joseph | 2025 State MI had an impressive day for Harbor Impact at the April Showers Classic on Saturday. Tess drives with quickness and uses her 5’10 length to gain advantages over other guards. She used long strides to score a smooth scoop runner off the glass and split two defenders to draw a foul at the basket. She contributed on the boards and sprinted back full speed to cut off a transition drive and block the shot. Tess handles the ball well using a variety of dribbles and is a prospect I would like to see more of this spring season (MOI Bio Chemistry).
Aubre Smith
Aubre Smith
Aubre Smith (6’0, PF) was a Swiss army knife for Harbor Impact Saturday at the April Showers Classic. She played every position on the court including running the point throughout the game. Aubre was unstoppable inside as she forcibly battled for offensive rebounds and scored on put backs. She backed down her defender and then used a drop step to score a floater. Aubre plays strong inside and is going to be a prospect to see during the travel season (MOI Psychology).
Kaitlyn Sedillo Kaitlyn Sedillo 5’7″ | PG Plainfield North | 2025 State IL was a prospect who caught my attention on the court for Mac Irvin Lady Fire on Saturday at the April Showers Classic. She is a knockdown shooter, hitting a wing 3 off the catch and then dribbling into another confident 3 from deep. Kaitlyn works hard defensively and rebounds; she pushes the ball out fast in transition using both hands with her eyes scanning the floor. Kaitlyn, extremely polite/sharp, was an impressive guard from out of state who I hope to see play again in the near future (MOI Business Management).
