Last weekend was a big step in the course of a grassroots season, as it was the first time NCAA Division-I women’s basketball coaches were allowed to be out evaluating prospects. I spent my time in Hamilton, Ohio, watching The Clash…a huge event that has provided many kids the opportunity to be “seen” over the past several years. After you remove the core shoe company teams, many of the rest of the better teams/programs in the Midwest, Northeast, and South were in attendance. This serves as the second of eight articles I am writing to review some Indiana prospects who stood out to me at the event. This is not everyone who played well, nor is it someone from every single team…there were too many teams/prospects in attendance to cover everyone adequately. However, below are several prospects who played well when I was able to see them.
.
Taryn has been in and out of lineups throughout her career due to a variety of injuries, so it’s great to see her healthy and performing consistently. She is very active, she has an athletic frame, and she can change directions quickly. She has always been one of the more athletic point guard prospects in the class, and it doesn’t seem like that has changed at all. At this point, she will just need to stack up consistent performances in front of coaches to get to where she has projected. She was really good at times defensively when I saw her, and she can get to the basket with ease.
Bren is definitely intriguing to schools because she is long, wiry-strong, active, and athletic. She can play inside of the arc and knock down mid-range jumpers or attack the basket. She’s a great pursuing rebounder as well, and she can defend players a little bigger than herself. At the same time, she can slip outside, handle it a little, knock down the occasional ‘3’, and at times defend bigger guards and wings. She could stand to specialize in something, but in the meantime, she is a plug-and-play kid who can perform a variety of roles for a number of elite small colleges.
Taylor’s stock has risen significantly over the past 9-12 months, and she continues to play consistently well. She has an athletic frame, great length, and she can get a little more physical than her style of play might suggest. She is a very good perimeter shooter and hunts jump-shots at times, but she is starting to put it on the floor a lot more and use her athleticism to draw free throw opportunities. I think at her size, she could be even more effective at getting rebound put-backs or simply back-cutting and looking to post up a bit. She has drawn quite a bit of varied college interest.
Cadynce is a really nice combo guard, but I go back and forth as to whether I like her more as a point or as a shooter off the ball. She has a fairly strong frame, nice length, she’s more fluid than explosive, but she has tremendous skill and a nice understanding of the game. She can handle and take care of it, get it where it needs to go, or get downhill and draw defenses. She is also a talented rhythm shooter who needs little time to get her feet set and get it away. She rebounds from the backcourt, and she uses angles and physicality to defend, but she’ll need to watch fouls.

Elle is another prospect who has spent the last year really establishing herself as a rising prospect. She has nice length, wiry strength, and solid all-around athleticism. She can handle it a little and push in transition, she can even create some for others. But she is a good perimeter shooter and someone who, once she adds a bit more strength, will only continue on that upward trajectory. She has good size and might still grow another inch or two, and she can play with some versatility. As she continues to build strength and play lower, she’ll be able to defend smaller positions.

I’ve seen Peyton on film, but this was my first time to see her in-person. I definitely want to watch her more to get a true sense of her all-around game, but my first impression is that she has nice versatility, she can play on or off the ball, and she plays with a nice motor. She has some speed and quickness, some length, and she can impact the game athletically. At the same time, she can handle and run offense, she can push and create in transition, but she can also score it from the wing. I also like how she can defend either backcourt position effectively.

When you see kids like Delaney coming along, it’s easy to understand why people want whatever is in the water at Homestead. Watching her play 16U last weekend, she just looks ready to go for Varsity action. If you didn’t know any better, she already plays with the poise, skill, and consistency of a Sophomore or Junior in high school. She has length, nice all-around athleticism, and some strength for her age. She can handle it a little, but she is a very good shooter/scorer who can find space and make shots from all three levels. She’ll be a fun one to watch the next four years.
