These 20 players represent some of the brightest young prospects among Minnesota’s incoming high school freshmen. This fall we’ll publish the Freshmen 50, the first official ranking of the 2028s. That will take place after the Freshmen Showcase in September, which is a great opportunity for players to make a lasting impression just before the rankings are finalized. Be sure to check out the previous three parts of this series. Here are the final five players on the 2028 Watch List.
Ari Peterson Ari Peterson 6'0" | SG Providence Academy | 2028 MN – forward, Minnetonka (All Iowa Attack EYBL)
The former Providence Academy forward, now bound for Minnetonka we’re told, is an athletic specimen. From the first moment we laid eyes on her nearly two years ago, that was obvious. What’s happened over the past six months, however, has been remarkable as Ari’s incredible potential is starting to be realized in the here and now. During the high school season her game grew leaps and bounds over the course year and she was huge in PA’s championship run. Every aspect has improved, from ball handling to shooting, to decision making, and Peterson’s length and athleticism are second to none in the class.
Sarah Poepard Sarah Poepard MN – guard, White Bear Lake ( Minnesota Fury 2028 UAA)
The White Bear Lake 8th grader has really come into her own in recent months, particularly during the past few weeks. Standing at 6 feet tall, Poepard is a very long and highly athletic guard. She handles the ball well under pressure and has stellar court vision. Her length allows her to defend multiple positions. Where we’ve seen Sarah’s game improve the most is in her confidence and offensive capabilities. She was instrumental for the Fury’s run to the AAU State Championship, providing crucial buckets when it mattered most.
Ashna Ramlall Ashna Ramlall 5'9" | CG Rosemount | 2028 MN – guard, Rosemount ( Minnesota Fury 2028 UAA)
You’d have to be living under a rock to not be aware of the Ramlall sisters of Rosemount by now. The youngest, Ashna, is a major offensive threat for the Fury, putting up big numbers week after week. At Live at the Lakes recently she scored 72 points for the weekend to continue a trend of offensive productivity that stretches bask to the high school season. Ashna’s overall game is remarkably sophisticated for a player her age. She can knock down open shots, attack the basket through traffic, create her own shot off the dribble, and much more.
Lauren Robison Lauren Robison 5'8" | CG Lakeville North | 2028 MN – guard, Lakeville North ( North Tartan Nike)
Lauren’s reputation as an elite shooter is well-established by now. When her confidence is up and her feet are set, Robison can make shots one after the other after the other regardless of distance. As we’ve seen this spring, though, the rest of Lauren’s game is growing, too. When you shoot as well as she does, it’s hard not to select that option first. Now Lauren is driving to the basket more frequently and finishing there at a high percentage. She handles the ball well, has excellent basketball intelligence and passes with precision. She is also a very good lock-down defender.
Sahara Wilson Sahara Wilson 6'1" | PF Lakeville North | 2028 MN – forward, Lakeville North ( North Tartan Nike)
Lakeville North never seems to be short of great prospects but Sahara is one of the very best we’ve seen. There are a mere handful of true post players in the Class of 2028. At 6’2 and growing, she is the biggest and the best. Wilson has a ton of size and strength, which allows her to dominate the paint on both ends of the floor. Sahara does so many things well. She defends with energy and intensity, has solid fundamentals and footwork, and her touch around the rim has improved greatly. What separates her from many other bigs is her mobility and light, quick feet. Sahara is going to be special.
