There is no more important position on the basketball court than point guard. They lead the team, create opportunities and set the tone for everyone else. This past weekend at the Mill City Invitational in Chanhassen, we spent a significant amount of time focused on the floor generals and saw a lot of talented prospects in the process. From the fresh-faced 7th graders in the Class of 2029 to the grizzled veterans who will graduate in 2025, we witnessed a lot of good ones. Here are five in particular who directed the show well at Mill City.

[player_tooltip player_id='834489' first='Paige' last='Determan'] — 2028 guard, [program_tooltip program_id='713021' first='West' last='Central United']

The 8th grader from Sauk Centre had a solid weekend at Chanhassen High School, standing out among several young point guard prospects we watched. Paige does a lot of things well on the basketball court: she can handle the ball and sees the floor, she is a solid passer, is tough both physically and mentally, and overall plays smart basketball. Determan is also a strong on-ball defender, using quick lateral movement to stay with her player. The 5'5 floor general also understands and plays vocal help-side defense when off the ball. Paige is a pass-first kind of guard, but she can score at multiple levels and takes well-selected shots. We love Paige's commitment and look forward to seeing her game evolve and grow in the coming years.

[player_tooltip player_id='589276' first='Taleigha' last='Bigler'] — 2026 guard, [program_tooltip program_id='712699' first='Minnesota' last='Rise'] Wolfe

The top 35 sophomore from Marshall was solid this weekend, impressing us with her play in games against Fury 2026 UAA and Fury 2025 UAA. The matchup against the Fury 26 squad came down to the wire and the lengthy competitor (she's 5'9) made some big plays to help her team get the win. Taleigha's relentless, high-revving motor and willingness to be scrappy and fight for loose balls, earned the Rise some extra possessions, as did her knack for grabbing offensive rebounds. Despite her small frame, Bigler crashes the glass consistently and positions herself to grab boards over her opponents. The Marshall point guard also showed off her ability to read the floor well and find the right scoring opportunities for herself or her teammates.

[player_tooltip player_id='339162' first='Addie' last='Hanna'] — 2025 guard, [program_tooltip program_id='712697' first='MN' last='Crossfire'] Tusler

The Maple Grove junior stood out among the field of point guards this weekend at Mill City, impressing us with her aggressiveness and physical play as always. Addie stands at 5'6 with a muscular, sturdy build. The top 75 prospect handles physicality really well and is able to effectively guard players much larger than herself. On Friday night, Addie put up 14 points against Fury 2025 UAA, knocking down four shots from beyond the three-point line. In addition to her quality shooting, Hanna also showed great movement and cuts when off the ball as well as the ability to handle the ball under pressure. Now heading into her senior season, Addie will continue to be a key piece of Maple Grove's puzzle this winter. She'll also be an excellent collegian wherever she ends up.

[player_tooltip player_id='675971' first='Trinity' last='Baker'] — 2027 guard, [program_tooltip program_id='767539' first='Minnesota' last='Comets'] Hoelscher

The 5'5 point guard had an outstanding weekend at the Mill City Invitational. Not only did she have a great individual performance, but her Comets Hoelscher squad went undefeated and won their division. In Sunday's final game, Trinity balled out against Fury 2027 S40, leading all scorers with 20 points with 14 of those coming in the first half. She showed off some crafty moves in the paint, her ability to knock down shots from three, and a commitment to wreaking havoc on the defensive end. Baker has spent a lot of time honing her skills as a point guard, both in AAU and high school play. She helped take the Underwood Rockets to the Class A state tournament semifinal this March. Ranked #68 in the Class of 2027, the 5'5 guard is one of the best competitors in her grade.

Bry Cummings — 2027 guard, [program_tooltip program_id='718403' first='Minnesota' last='Freeze']

The 5'6 guard from Blaine has been quietly going about her business directing traffic for the 2027 Freeze squad all summer while consistently getting better. Cummings is a quick and crafty floor leader. We liked her patience on the court. She does a nice job of sizing up the situation, spotting the openings and then pouncing to create or score. She put up 11 points in a win over [program_tooltip program_id='712697' first='MN' last='Crossfire'] Stern, and did the same against [program_tooltip program_id='714566' first='Minnesota' last='Stars'] EA showing off her improved finishing and shot making. Bry saw some varsity minutes for the Bengals last winter. After putting in time in the weight room, she has added strength that will really help her earn more floor time going forward. Defensively, she does a great job on the ball and uses her quickness to create turnovers and transition buckets.

PGH scout Ally McGinnis contributed to these evaluations.
