It's exciting for many reasons in my perspective. A) new people to cover and see what they can do. B) new possibilities for ball clubs because these new additions may be the missing pieces that will make them a run. C) personally, I just love the addition of another young lady putting her name in the books as a female high school student athlete. I am a big advocate for women's basketball. My mom was Lady Vol. All the lessons and stuff she was taught there, it vibrates through the communities throughout our state. Coach Summitt really did her job and trailblazer opportunities for women's basketball. The effects of her are still going strong within these borders. More on that later.

Going back to being the newbies on campus, I know it may stink because it is like starting all over again. But, it's a fresh start. An opportunity to learn, find your niche, and become a ballplayer that may do certain things that you might have never done before. You find your role.

Below are some young ladies who are entering their freshman year eyes wide open. They are going to go into this season looking to gain some minutes, but when they are in their, you better believe they are going to give it all they got. They might be little used prospects right now, but in the coming years, they are going to be players you have to be accountable for. Check out a few newbies to the high school ranks.

[player_tooltip player_id='822486' first='Hayes' last='Henderson'] (5'10/G/Fr./GCA- Franklin)- Versatile wing that can play inside and out. Has a nice long frame on her that enables her to clog the lanes to get deflections and most importantly rebounds. Offensively she can shoot it from the arc, but has a nice mid-range game as well. She's been working hard to add to her tool kit as she will step into a significant role for the Lady lions this upcoming season. This kid is hungry, talented, and is about to break through.

Mackenzie Ross (5'4/PG/Fr./ East Nashville)- Powerful. Don't let the size fool you. An energizer bunny who is a juggernaut on the defensive side. She's going to lock you up the full length of the floor, creative havoc along the way. Offensively, she can shoot the 3 ball, but getting paint touches is what she does best. Look for her to compete early and find her place on a solid East Nashville squad.

[player_tooltip player_id='822481' first='Jada' last='Davis'] (5'8/F/ Fr./ Cleveland)- Solid wing who can beat you around the class and from the arc. Has a quick first step that enables her to attack the rim. A heady ball player who makes the right reads and will challenge someone on her way to the cup. Defensively, she can guard guards as well as posts, throwing her body to get into position to make it hard for the opposition. A solid trait of hers is her ability to rebound the basketball and sprint her lane for an easy transition bucket. Solid prospect who will carve out some minutes for the Lady Raiders this upcoming season.

Aaliyah Holman (5'5/G/Fr./ Mt. Juliet)- Solid prospect who can handle the basketball with poise. She can play point or off the ball, either way, and has the ability to score the rock. Can shoot it from the arc at a consistent clip, can utilize her quick first step to get down hill and attack the rim. Defensively, she's active with her hands and feet. Will dive for loose balls, giving up her body to win the possession. Solid kid who will help the Lady Golden Bears program for years to come.

[player_tooltip player_id='1239760' first='Tess' last='Long'] (5'6/G/Fr./ Summertown)- Confident. Once it clicks, this kid is going to be something special. Motor up girl who competes her tail off every possession. Can score it from multiple spots on the floor, however it is her tenacious defense that comes to mind. She's active, great in traps and in the open floor. She gets deflections, steals, keeps her girl in front. I love how she contributes doing other things as well, rebounds, sprints to help, ect. Most importantly, she communicates with her teammates, an important trait to have. Solid kid who will be a nice addition to the Summertown program.
