We're still working through everyone from the PGH Freshman Showcase. Today, it's Team Six's turn in the spotlight. Let's talk about some of the notes I had on them.

One of the more physical wings at the event, the Algoma wing, showed a little of everything in her minutes. I thought she showed she could handle the ball and make some plays on the perimeter. Schmidt's ability to get results on the floor stood out, and watching her figure out how to join a team she didn't know anything about beforehand was intriguing. She was a release valve for her guards and did a solid job reading the floor with the ball in her hands.

I saw Gary play a few days before the Freshman Showcase down in Stoughton. At SEA, Gary shot the leather off the ball and looked unbelievably good when she got her feet to shoot. Every time Gary took a shot last Sunday, I believed it'd go in the basket. She might have been the most confident player in the gym. Anytime the future Madison Country Day guard had the ball in her hands, it looked like she was playing one-on-zero. Her pace, poise, and intensity never changed. Gary looked like she was taking practice reps against live competition and playing at a high level. I'm not sure the last time Country Day had someone that talented walk through the door, but I'm excited to see what she can do for the Prairie Hawks.

The Two Rivers frontcourt piece was one of the intriguing 5'10 kids from the Freshman Showcase. Her ability to use her length to block shots around the rim was evident early. Her length allowed her to make plays around the rim that few can. The tools are there for Gallagher to become a force for the Purple Raiders and the Eastern Wisconsin Conference. I loved how she used her physical tools around the basket. There's plenty of room for growth with that skill set.

Watching Alwin is an experience. She's another lengthy wing who can do a little of everything, which is what will likely earn her playing time for Wisconsin Dells. However, I thought her length was more noticeable on the perimeter. Alwin did an excellent job reading passing lanes and used her length to bait passes into a lane she could quickly cover. That can frustrate guards and force an opposing offense to play a different style of basketball. There's plenty of talent at the Dells right now, so it'll be interesting to see what role she can carve out this season.
