5 RIIL Lead Guards To Watch This Season Pt. 2

This week the schools in the conference are able to host their first official live practices. With this marking the formal start of the season, this is the ideal time to discuss some of the top talent to look forward to throughout the season. Below are 5 lead guards to watch this season. Her driving takes are assertive and get behind the initial layer of defense. Lucia shows the utmost hustle when playing. Her competitive spirit is something that's easily translated on both sides of the ball. Delponte sacrifices her body on defense for the betterment of the team. She works well in the team's schemes and can be an asset when a stop is needed. Nassiff hits countless big-time shots that inject her team with energy and her play in transition is just the cherry on top. Marielle moves well on the perimeter by decisively finding the open area. Theres no waisted movements with her, everything is efficient. Nassiff is also a sturdy defender that feeds off her teammates staggering aggressiveness. Marielle is often cleaning up plays to get out on the break for some easy ones. The '27 guard is a player to keep an eye on as the season progresses. The effervescent shooter brings a dynamic touch to lineups. She demands the attention of the person guarding her at all times. Berube is a high IQ player that makes the right plays based upon the position of the defense. Her shot making ability is what makes the pump-fakes and other crafty moves believable. Sarah will find the open area to be a target. She remains shot ready, no matter her spot on the floor. Once things get flowing for Berube, it's hard to stop her. Holmes is a crafty finisher with a tight handle that allows her to operate in high stress scenarios. Her ability to create is unmatched in Rhode Island. Last year she was named All-Class and this season she will be in an ideal position to get even more honors. Homles is a certified star in the RIIL, especially this season where she'll be logging heavy minutes. She's a high-usage player that even translates her exceptional playmaking to the defensive side. She baits players into making mistakes with their dribbles and crowds weaker ballhandlers. Jaelyn has the gumption needed to carry her team when things get tight. Not sure why the recruiting buzz isn't heavily highlighting her, but she is a player that warrants some recognition. Faunce brings great versatility at the point by being able to be ball dominate or sliding to an off-ball position. Faunce was a first-year starter last year, but performed better than expected in the new role. Many times, Brooke's scoring and playmaking skills were needed in times when the offense was stagnant. Not only is she boosting her team offensively, but the defense also stands out. Consistently Brooke is fighting over screens and guarding players from beyond points of comfort others may have. The 2-way play can be counted on a nightly basis.
