CIF LA City Section: Notable Early Season Underclassmen Standouts

She is averaging 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals to begin the season. <strong>Desiree</strong> is at her best applying pressure on the defense and making tough shots inside the arc. Her undersized stature does not limit her against taller, athletic defenders. She has shown an ability to play passing lanes to perfection. A 24 point performance against North High (Torrance, CA) opened a lot of eyes. If she continues to play at a high level, Birmingham will be a force to reckon with in the West Valley League. <strong>Kayla</strong> has a lot of potential as a scorer, playmaker, and defender. She is doing so at an efficient clip (50% FG). <strong>Melanie</strong> excels as an on-ball defender, averaging 3 steals and almost a block per game. She plays at her own pace and seems to have a high basketball IQ. Her potential is clear and evident. <strong>Alana's</strong> shooting stroke, quickness, instincts, and anticipation are well beyond her years. Granada Hills has an excess of talent on their roster, and <strong>Alana</strong> fits right in. As a two-sport standout (volleyball), she has the length and athleticism to dominate at her position this season. <strong>Jacqueline</strong> is 3rd on the team in scoring and controls the paint.
