Guards make high school basketball teams successful, and I've seen plenty of talented backcourts thus far this season. Let's talk about a few of them I've been impressed by this season.

Maya Fisher

The Oconomowoc guard was the kid I didn't know heading into the KM Thanksgiving Classic that impressed me the most. Fisher seemed like someone who played soccer for a while due to her endurance and ability to move her feet in space to give opposing guards fits. Her effort pressuring the ball in the backcourt led to the Raccoons finding six or eight points that made a massive difference. She got into foul trouble in the game I watched her play, but Ocon's intensity ratcheted up a few notches when Fisher was on the court.

One of the most undervalued guards in her class, Bond is a kid who can score, create, and turn defense into offense. She's an offensive pressure cooker who can go on an impressive personal run, fit passes into small windows, or jump passing lanes at any time. Bond's a solid athlete who has proven to be one of the more talented guards in an excellent Classic 8 Conference. Bond will have a say in every game the Lasers play this season. I'm sure there are small schools in the region with interest in her, and she could be an all-conference-level kid at a small school somewhere.

[player_tooltip player_id='874375' first='Aubryn' last='Clark']

The Rhinelander guard had one of the most talented defenders in the state guard her when I watched her play a little over a week ago. I also find more when kids get put in a pickle than watching them play their best basketball. Clark scored 12 points in that game but didn't make mistakes with the ball. The Hodag is someone that coaches can trust with the ball in her hands, and she's physical enough to handle the beating she may take when she attacks the basket. I love her attitude on the floor, and she's a positive kid with her teammates. That's why everyone looks at her on the floor when questions arise about what's going on, and that's what makes a good leader.

[player_tooltip player_id='764914' first='Finley' last='Morgan']

The Laconia sophomore has thrived with a more prominent role in the Spartans offense. I thought she's been excellent away from the ball at finding space and using her quickness to get by her initial defender, and as a kid who can play with or without the ball, Morgan can create for others when defenses scramble. There's still plenty of room for her to grow on that end over time, but the arrow is pointing up with her, which is all you can ask from an underclassman.
