Legacy Scrimmage: Newcomers Making a Name

This article features three prospects from the 2029 class, two from the 2028 class and one from the 2027 class. However, because of extenuating circumstances her family had to move and she ended up within the Standley Lake boundaries. After just a couple of trips up and down the court it was obvious that Aaliyah is a pure athlete. It was also readily apparent that she has outstanding touch from mid-range and beyond that will be able to help the Gators stretch defenses this season. At 5'9 Valenzuela is also able to make an impact inside. As a sophomore she pulled down 93 rebounds and blocked 47 shots. As one of Legacy's starting guards she dazzled in her first ever high school varsity minutes. Gracie knocked down multiple three's throughout the day, shooting with confidence and precision. She also did a great job of handling the ball, attacking the rim, finishing with a myriad of stride &amp; jump stops, and consistently pivoting out of pressure. Bradley's comfort level given her age and the circumstances (starting at a 6A school as a freshman) was remarkable. Her height (5'9) length, physicality and athleticism will help her thrive against older, more experienced players. Expect Riley to make a difference in the paint for Legacy this season. She rebounds well and is really good about taking what the defense gives her offensively. Kennedy is a blur on the court - Her north/south speed &amp; lateral quickness help will consistently help Legacy create chaos on the defensive end. Pressure defense is where Kennedy thrives but she also uses her speed to get easy baskets in transition. Martin's effort level is second to none - She makes "winning plays" in all three phases of the game and is a supportive teammate. She is slight in stature but big on confidence and it showed in each scrimmage game. Any amount of space and the 3 ball is going up with a good shot at tickling the bottom of the net. Only a sophomore playing varsity for the first time, Meilla also showed the speed and quickness that will allow her to be a strong on-ball defender as she develops. Sanchez has the skill set of a combo guard but played more of a pure point guard role in the scrimmages for Heritage. Naomi did a good job of playing against pressure from Legacy and seemed to get more and more comfortable offensively as the games went along. There are inevitably lots of ups and downs for a first year varsity player, but Naomi is trending up and definitely a player to watch moving forward.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
