MICDS First Round Standouts

Prep Girls Hoops Missouri was at MICDS on Thursday to watch the first-round action at the Don Maurer Holiday Invitational Tournament. In the four games, No. 1 seed Fort Zumwalt West defeated Westminster, Lafayette defeated Clayton, Kirkwood defeated Collinsville and host MICDS defeated Ladue. We had a chance to watch the last three games at MICDS. Here is a look at some of the top standouts from those games.    A 2026 shooting guard who was one of the most impressive players that I watched during the day. The talented lefty scored a game-high 26 points to lead the Pioneers to an upset victory over No. 2 seed Collinsville. She really set the tone with three early buckets, including a 3-pointer. She displayed good three-level scoring ability throughout the game. She used her strength to turn the corner and get downhill to score in the lane. Her one-dribble pull up game for the mid-range jumper was also on point. When she had the open 3-pointer, she shot it with confidence.     The 5'7" 2025 small forward scored a game-high 21 points in the Lancers' victory over Clayton. She did much of her damage in the first half when she scored 15 points. She is a very resourceful offensive player who can score in a variety of ways. She can go into the low post and use her great footwork to get buckets underneath. She attacks the basket well off the dribble and she can shoot it from 3-point range. She is able to score without trying to force things to much. She lets the game come to her.     The 6'1" 2025 post player from Metro East (IL) scored 25 points against Kirkwood. She is a dynamic rebounder who works tirelessly for boards. She is very good at getting out of her area. She is a tough cover in the low post with her physical strength and good footwork inside. She was powering up with the drop step and she also had a nice spin move in traffic. She was also not afraid to grab the defensive rebound and take off on the dribble without the outlet pass.     A 5'11" 2027 forward who scored 19 points against MICDS on Thursday. She is an elite level rebounder who gets good position and she has the athleticism to high point the ball in a crowd. She is very tenacious in her pursuit for boards. Her offensive skills in the low post are very effective. She also did a good job of catching the ball in the high post and wheeling on the dribble to score on the drive with her right hand.     A 5'5" 2025 point guard who scored 10 points and played an excellent overall floor game in the win against Ladue. She is a very aggressive player who will ball hawk on the defensive end. If any post player brings the ball down in her area, consider it stolen. She is excellent at distributing the basketball, but she makes open perimeter shots and will also penetrate into the lane to create open shots for her teammates.     A 5'6" 2025 point guard who scored a team-high 12 points against Lafayette on Thursday. The is a very sound ball handler who was capable of touching the paint and making things happen. She has a nice float game in the lane, but she can also knock down the open 3-pointer. She is also a tenacious on-ball defensive player who can make things uncomfortable for opposing ball handlers.
