2025 CIF D3 Regional Semi Finals:Mater Dei Catholic – Palisades

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Game Report: Mater Dei Catholic 57 - Palisades 55</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The DIII Regional Semi Finals brought together a number of great matchups; I was able to catch a showdown between the CIFSD D1 Semi Finalist Mater Dei Catholic and the CIFLAS Open Semi Finalist Palisades. Saturday's battle was back and forth, high energy, and bit sloppy at times! In a game that was never more than a 10 point difference, Palisades found themselves up 1 entering the fourth. Led by the dominating play of Junior Promise Martin, Mater Dei was able to surge back, take a late lead and sneak away with a 2 point lead and date with El Camino Real on Tuesday to play for a chance at a state title. I'm no statistician, but by count she almost had a double/double by halftime. Relentless driver + worker on the glass; majority of her rebounds early were on the offensive glass. Can and will push off a defensive rebound with pace. Showed the ability to confidently knock down an open 3. She's shown a developing touch around the rim; confidence with the ball in the open floor, and ability to face + attack from a pinch/elbow entry. She had a HUGE 2nd half for Mater Dei providing a much needed scoring spark of 8 points + multiple extra opportunities with her work on the O glass. Her relentless effort was apparent in the press, she works hard to keep the ball in front and defend without fouling. Offensively Jarika is always on go looking to attack bad/late closeouts. She does a great job creating contact on drives + getting her shot off after contact. Makenna keeps the ball on a string, and does a great job faking a pace to make a better pass. She got downhill all game under control to find teammates on a kick out, pull up for a short floater, or slide by the defense for a crafty lay. Within the first 2 minutes of her first rotation she had: Run the floor for an easy layup, spread the floor with correct spacing + knocked down a 3 and battled a bigger girl on the defensive end multiple possessions.
