5 Standout Rebounders from the WA 1B Girls Basketball Tournament

Delainey Nelson was a force inside for the Waterville Mansfield Shockers, leading the team with 25 total rebounds. She consistently established position in the paint, ripping down boards against physical frontcourts like Pateros and Wellpinit. Her most impactful rebounding performance came in a narrow win over Pateros, where she pulled in 12 rebounds, including 10 on the defensive end to secure a possession for her team. Nelson's interior toughness set the tone on both ends of the court. Her effort on the boards was a major reason Waterville-Mansfield made a push deep into the tournament.     Julia George anchored the Yakama Tribal frontcourt with 24 rebounds over the tournament, using her length and timing to dominate both ends of the glass. One of the more impressive stats across the tournament, George totaled 9 offensive rebounds across her 3 games. Her ability to track down a lose ball and use her body to create space was particularly impressive. In a tournament where defense was at a premium, the amount of extra possessions George created was critical to her team's success. Henley might have had the most impressive individual game performance on the glass against Pateros where she grabbed 17 rebounds (4 being on the offensive end). In a game where the final score was 51-47, controlling the boards, not allowing extra possessions for the opponent, while also creating some for yourself is often times the difference. To put this further into context, Pateros had a total of 25 rebounds, only 8 more than Henley had. This gritty performance is a mark of a high effort, clutch player.     Martin's ability to dominate the glass was a critical component of Neah Bay's championship run. Martin collected 28 rebounds throughout the tournament, including an astounding 13 on the offensive end. She was one of the unsung heros of the tournament, not needing to lead her team in scoring to make her impact felt. Her ability to track the ball off the rim and put herself in the mix to create second chances was evident. Martin's athleticism combined with her instincts for the ball create a deadly rebounder.     Norman led the tournament with 31 rebounds across 3 games. A senior, she provided consistency and effort throughout Wellpinit's State B run. Her unique blend of size and footwork allow her to navigate the paint and grab rebounds away from the opposing team. She's one of those players who can impact the game without scoring (even though she does a fair amount of that). Norman was steady and impactful throughout her time in the Arena, and she should be proud of her efforts.
