Travel Club Preview: Tampa Ignite 17U

Director: Amber Jennings   City: Tampa   Circuit: NXTPRO   With the grassroots season about to kick off in full swing and the first live period less than a month away, programs are preparing to showcase their athletes in front of spectators and college coaches. I want to highlight these talented ladies and give you a preview of what to expect from them this travel season.   [program_tooltip program_id='1222808' first='Tampa' last='Ignite'], based out of Tampa, Florida, is part of the NXTPRO Circuit (PUMA), with scheduled stops in Atlanta, Oklahoma City, and Memphis—concluding at the NXTPRO Finals in Florida. The program features 14U, 16U, and 17U teams.   Here is a preview of their 17U squad.    [player_tooltip player_id='1183630' first='Charity' last='Davis'] is a versatile forward out of Wesley Chapel High School. Davis is aggressive and relentless on the boards, with solid footwork that allows her to stay in front of her matchups and contest shots effectively. She also has a soft touch around the rim, making her a consistent finisher when in position. Her ability to run the floor adds another dimension to her game. Davis is sure to draw attention from scouts and coaches this travel season, as she can impact the game in many ways beyond scoring.     [player_tooltip player_id='1268293' first='Kaytee' last='Tyler'], out of Wharton, is coming off a productive season where she averaged 12.7 PPG while shooting 49% from the field and grabbing 6.1 rebounds per game. The 5'10" combo guard can run positions 1 through 3 and is also capable of playing in the post, battling for position and rebounds when needed. Her ability to shoot off the catch with a smooth follow-through will undoubtedly catch the attention of many. She's a constant threat with the ball in her hands—whether off the catch or the dribble.   Her biggest offensive strength is her ability to finish at the rim through contact, using her length to finish high off the glass. Defensively, she utilizes that same length to poke the ball loose on the wing and contest shots in the post, either altering the shot or blocking it altogether.     [player_tooltip player_id='514569' first='Cherity' last='Powells'] out of Sunlake is one of the most underrated guards in the state. She has the ability to slash, get downhill, and finish at the rim. She also gets out in transition quickly for easy buckets and always plays with urgency and intensity, fighting for every play as if the game is on the line. Not only does she have a knack for finishing at the rim, but she also draws contact to convert and-1 opportunities or get to the free throw line.   Coming off a season where she led her team in scoring with 12.4 PPG, she also averaged 3.7 steals per game—showcasing her ability to be a true two-way player who impacts the game on both ends.     [player_tooltip player_id='1261744' first='Meghan' last='Wimbley'] plays with toughness and physicality, paired with a strong mix of footwork around the rim. Her ability to initiate contact and use step-throughs forces her matchups to stay disciplined—otherwise, she'll catch them off guard with a smooth finish or draw the foul. She can also stretch the floor and bring taller defenders out to guard her, adding to her versatility.   If she shoots the midrange well this travel season, she'll be a matchup problem—too quick for bigger defenders and too strong and relentless at the rim for smaller ones to handle.     [player_tooltip player_id='727619' first='Mya' last='Greene'] is the type of shooter every team needs, coming off a season where she hit at least two three-pointers in 11 games. However, she doesn't rely solely on her shot—she's a hard-nosed defender who turns defense into offense with both on-ball and off-ball steals. She consistently creates extra possessions by hustling for loose balls and isn't afraid to take a charge or put her body on the line for the benefit of the team.     Jahnvi Saini spaces the floor with her ability to shoot off the catch with decisiveness and urgency when the ball is swung to her. She also makes quick reads, swinging the ball if the defense closes out, always keeping her head on a swivel to find the open teammate. Offensively, she's focused on making the right decision with the ball. Defensively, she has great instincts off the ball—able to intercept bad passes and quickly push the ball in transition.     [player_tooltip player_id='1260328' first='Adrionna' last='Butzky'] is a defensive anchor with the ability to contest shots at their highest point, often resulting in blocks or forced misses—making opponents second-guess attacking the paint. She's also effective on the glass, securing defensive rebounds to limit second and third-chance points, while crashing the offensive boards to create extra opportunities for her team.   Butzky hustles for every loose ball, helping her teammates get out in transition for easy buckets. She plays tough and grinds it out from start to finish.     [player_tooltip player_id='1235684' first='Audri' last='Colten'] is a dynamic point guard who can run the offense with both patience and urgency. She handles pressure well when tough defenders get on her, with her tight ball handling ability, which opens up her impressive passing ability and showcases her court vision. If defenders try to take that away, she knows how to create her own shot off the dribble—whether it's attacking the rim or pulling up for a jumper.   She can heat up quickly, too. This past high school season, she recorded at least four games with 20 or more points.     [player_tooltip player_id='1261784' first='Ivelisse' last='Orengo'] is a pest on the defensive end, using her quickness and active hands to force turnovers—especially on the ball. She has a knack for tipping the ball loose and beating her matchup to the spot. In transition, she has a great sense of where her teammates are, often passing them open for easy buckets.   Orengo embraces doing the little things—whether it's getting over quickly in help defense on both the strong side and weak side, or always having her teammates' backs. Her ability to be in the right place at the right time leads to even more turnovers and extra possessions.     Jelissa Anderson is a versatile forward who can score in a variety of ways. She can put the ball on the floor and get to the rim with minimal dribbles, while also adjusting to defensive shifts and finding creative ways to finish. She has the ability to stretch the floor by knocking down shots from both midrange and beyond the arc.   Jelissa is also an unselfish player—drawing extra defenders and creating opportunities for her open teammates. Not only is she a fierce competitor, but she's also a top-notch leader on the floor. Her teammates follow her lead, and she motivates everyone around her.     Anessa Maefield plays with physicality when the ball is in her hands and knows how to use her length to cover ground, getting to the rim with just a few dribbles. She has an explosive first step and the ability to bounce back up like a pogo stick after missed shots to grab her own rebounds.   When she's driving downhill, she attacks in a straight line, giving defenders little time to rotate—often forcing teams into foul trouble due to late help.
