I mean, there has been some tremendous WNBA basketball on the tube. I'm waiting on the Lady Vols to drop their upcoming schedule (well, they just did, imagine that). I am truly excited (sorry, ladies) that the school year has started or is about to start. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love football as well, but we are three months away from basketball season.

I can't wait. I know I am not trying to wish summer or the fall season away, but I am just excited to see the growth and maturation process of a lot of these prospects we have in the state. What I love about travel ball is when our athletes go up against other states and compete. Then, when the high school season rolls around, you get to see how they've grown or stacked up against that competition. I mean, there are some real reality checks out there during travel ball. What I tell people is this: one may struggle or may not have the season they wanted during that grind period, but when they get back to their school ball team, it all clicks and takes off. Sometimes it's about being in a different environment and seeing what's out there for you to realize what your potential really is.

I am excited that basketball is just around the corner. It will be here before you know it. Until then, I am going to keep cranking out these articles and getting ready for a big season from a lot of prospects. Here are just a few kids I am excited about for the upcoming season.

She is about to have a breakthrough year. She's been in the gym grinding, getting up shots. She has a solid year on the EYBL circuit and got some valuable minutes against some good competition. You could tell she was playing freely and with a lot of confidence as she knifed through defenses on her way to the rim. She was playing hard, getting after it, and contributed in many ways to her KYP ball club. Look for her to come out of the gates and be an important piece for the Lady Tigers this season.

Hungry. Determined. This kid was hoopin' this summer. Yeah, she can score it from multiple spots on the floor, but it's her defense that makes opponents look silly. She has great hands, quick reactionary skills, which enabled her to get tons of steals. I am excited to see her back in action as she is about to put her team on her back this upcoming season. She is primed and ready for the opportunity to showcase what she's all about.

This young lady is so solid. I just love her playmaking ability and how she goes all out on every possession. Of course, she can score it from the arc and slash to the rim, but her defense and rebounding ability stand out in my mind. She is the X factor. Someone who brings the noise, packs a mighty punch. She's the sparkplug that ignites her team's runs, and she will look to do so this upcoming season. A solid kid who is a tenacious defender.

She is just a throwback kind of player who really knows how to utilize her body to gain ground. She stands out in my mind because she is one of the best at obtaining her position to exploit a defense. She's strong, she's tough, she rebounds the basketball. She battles, and that's what you want to see down on the low block. She will be an important piece for Bartlett this upcoming season. She had a great summer and will look to bring that momentum with her to the school ball season.

One of the toughest bigs in the state. This young lady plays with such determination and heart. Her game has grown over the years, and now that she is healthy, it's taken off. She can stretch the floor on the offensive end, but when she is around low blocks and dunker spots, she is hard to contain. Defensively, she is going to block shots and go up strong after rebounds. Her style of play uplifts those around them. She's going to battle no matter what. Possession by possession, she is going to give you her all and then some. She is tough, responsible with the ball and her assignments, and willing to do whatever it takes for her team to win.
