The Warrior Mentality of Young Female Basketball Players

It's a dog mentality. A warrior. Someone who is willing to do whatever it takes to gain possession of the basketball. They are there to help their ball club win. It's not about stats or accolades. It's about competition and showing the person in front of them that it's about to be 32 minutes of absolute war.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Throughout our state, we have kids who just compete. They have this kind of mindset where they just go get it out of the mud. It may look different depending on the area, but the goal is the same. Compete. Get after it. Win. That's what they do and that's what they are about.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>We have a lot of girls who bring this type of mentality into the fold. Like I mentioned early, they may look different, coming in various sizes, shapes, whatever. The goal is the same. Win and win no matter what.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>When I think of girls like these, I think of kids who throw everything out the window and just get after it. They want to win, and they want to do so now. She is going to go at you and do it in various ways. She can knock down the 3 ball, break a defender down, and get to the rim, but what I love most about her is her ability to defend. She brings a ton of energy and effort into the fold, and her teams feeds off that. A kid who can score on all three levels. She can shoot 3s, make a double move that enables her to get into her floater game, but what I love about her most is her ability to defend the best of them. She is going to go at you. Not around you, but through you. She is going to shut you down and make you feel it. The way she plays is remarkable, and she lets everyone know neither she nor her team is a pushover. A fearless leader, she is going to go to bat for her club and give their opponent that work. She can score from multiple spots on the floor, make timely assists, defend, and contribute in multiple ways. She's a solid kid who wants to be the best and works towards giving it her all. She is a bully down low, a kid who brings the physicality. She can score from around the arc, but she makes her bread and butter along the interior. She plays with speed and power. She's big time on the boards. She plays with a lot of force, and that is something that stands out in my mind. Look for her to take her game and her team to the next level. She is a tough defender who is willing to guard whoever, whenever, wherever. The kid loves to create chaos, and that's one attribute she possesses. Built with speed, she can make an opponent work hard for whatever they are trying to get. She can pick someone up the full length of the floor and turn them over. She can be in a position to obtain the rock in helpside, reading the play, then reacting. When she is on offense, she can get downhill and finish against contact.
