Southern Section Preview: Long-Range Snipers

Shooting is an art that few have mastered. Sabrina Ionescu, Kayla McBride, Caitlyn Clark, Kelsey Mitchell, and Jackie Young are elite scorers and all-around great players, but what stands out is their sharpshooting. As we all know, the Southern Section is loaded with offensive firepower. When it comes to long-range sniping, the ladies below are the best of the best!    Every time the ball leaves her hand, you expect it to go in. Excellent arc and mechanics on her jump shot. Chasity Rice has ice in her veins, literally! One of the most clutch playoff performances I've seen in recent memory last year. Her 2-way ability is special. She has quick hands and feet, along with a nasty, physical presence on the perimeter. Her movement off-the ball allows for ball dominant players to flourish playing with her. She spreads the floor with range and plays winning basketball. Chasity should be on everyone's radar immediately!     Daniela is one of the state's top underrated snipers... as consistent as they come from long-range. 2+ made threes in 25/28 games last year! Her season-high, 34 points, included 8 three-pointers! Daniela is also a willing passer and gritty defender. Her quick, compact release allows her to get her shot off with ease. One thing that stands out is her shot preparation. Daniela sets her feet and lets it fly with little wasted motion. Excellent balance and a nice follow-through. These traits translate to the next level in terms of elite catch-and-shoot ability.     Dani made NOISE on the UAA circuit this past summer. She shoots on the move, she shoots off screens, she shoots off-the-catch and off-the-dribble. She makes her free throws. The definition of an all-around great shooter. Very few weaknesses in her game. Incorporates the mid-range well and uses her athleticism to her advantage. Very impressive defensively with underrated playmaking ability if given the keys to an offense. The highly ranked prospect will be on an Ontario Christian roster full of D1 talent. Expect Dani to have plenty of opportunities to light it up against stiff competition.     Alex is a catch-and-shoot specialist who will pull from the volleyball line! Crafty scorer AND pure shooter. Her production as a freshman, particularly in Division 2A of the Southern Section, was flat-out remarkable. Opposing defenses gave all of their attention to her and she still delivered. She plays both ways and impacts the game in other areas, even if her shot is not falling. Alex shot nearly 40% from long-range as a freshman! She has been battle tested in big games. Her confidence and maturity make you think she is an 18-year-old senior. [player_tooltip player_id='1262278' first='Alex' last='Flores'] is a name to know in the 2028 class!     Gigi had a productive sophomore season for a team that finished 22-7 and undefeated in league play. Her confidence is unmatched as a shooter. Gigi made timely shots throughout the year. With solid size at the 2-spot, she gives you shooting, rebounding, and gritty defense. 20 games with three or more 3s last year, including eight 3s and 26 points in a down-to-the-wire 1 point victory against Rowland High. Expect an even bigger breakout year for the sharpshooting junior.     Tory is a threat as soon as she steps across half-court. Opposing teams know you cannot leave her or she will knock it down consistently and efficiently. One notable game last year included 7 threes against powerhouse, Etiwanda. Tory made a huge jump from freshman to sophomore year, so she is clearly focused on her craft. She has natural leadership qualities and plays with a chip on her shoulder. Tory is as reliable as it gets in terms of pure shooting from a pass-first PG.     Kamilla is climbing up the 2028 ranks as expected. Elite scorer, a sharpshooter, and most importantly a winner. Kamilla led the 24-5 Vikings in scoring as a freshman! Her ability to shoot off-the-bounce is truly special. She comes off screens, she pulls up from the top of the key, she spots up in the corner, the list goes on and on. As a 6'1 lefty, few guards can contain or contest her shot. She creates separation and gets to her spots with ease. Kamilla's contested shot-making ability is arguably tops in her class. When her shot is not falling, she does not settle and finds other ways to score or make a play for others. Expect Kamilla to be in the conversation for POY honors and expect the offers to roll in expeditiously.
