A Look at the MWAA

Prep Girls Hoops Missouri continues its league previews with a look at the Metro Women's Athletic Association. This league has been the domain of the Incarnate Word Academy dynasty for many years. The Red Knights are loaded to make another run at a Class 6 state championship. Cor Jesu is also in the mix as well. The Chargers have made back-to-back runs to the Class 6 Final Four. Ursuline Academy has played some excellent ball in recent years with a couple of district championships.   THE STARTING FIVE   [player_tooltip player_id='317348' first='Nevaeh' last='Lucious'] (Incarnate Word): A 6'3" 2026 forward who provided the strong inside presence at both ends of the court for the Class 6 state champions. She is a reliable scorer in the low post as well as a excellent shot blocker on defense. As a junior, she averaged 11.6 points and six rebounds while shooting 65 percent from the field. She has signed with Missouri State.   [player_tooltip player_id='554959' first='Evelyn' last='Shane'] (Ursuline): A 6'0" 2026 forward who will graduate as one of the top players in the history of Ursuline's program. A four-year starter, she had led Ursuline to a pair of district championships. An excellent athlete with a high motor, she averaged 16.7 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.3 blocks while shooting 55 percent from the field. She has signed with Saint Louis University.   [player_tooltip player_id='302756' first='Peyton' last='Olufson'] (Incarnate Word): A 5'8" 2026 combo guard who has been a key cog for the Red Knights during their state championship run. She is a knock-down shooter who has an excellent feel for the game. She averaged 7.1 points and three assists while shooting 44 percent from 3-point range and making 54 triples. She is headed to Saint Louis University.   [player_tooltip player_id='351778' first='Savannah' last='Stricker'] (Incarnate Word): A 5'10" 2026 guard who is a great connector who plays an excellent all-around game. She is a capable scorer, but does whatever is needed to help her team succeed. She averaged 5.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.5 steals in helping IWA to a state title. She has signed with Lindenwood University.   [player_tooltip player_id='460896' first='Lauren' last='Ortwerth'] (Cor Jesu): A 6'0" 2026 forward who excels at volleyball and basketball, where she was an All-State performer in both sports. On the basketball court, she led CJA to back to back appearances in the Final Four of the Class 6 state tournament. Ursuline returns a strong nucleus of players which should lead to another successful season. St Joe's has a nice blend of experienced seniors and talented underclassmen.
