<p>It was a cross-class clash between the No. 1-ranked teams in 5A and 4A, according to the OSAAtoday Coaches Polls.</p>

<p>Senior [player_tooltip player_id='832596' first='Darissa' last='Romero-Ah Sam'], the returning Midwestern League Defensive Player of the Year, led the Millers to victory from the tip with an efficient 22 points, 3 assists, and 6 steals. She scored 4 three-pointers and finished multiple pick-six fast breaks.</p>

<p>The MIllers applied backcourt pressure from start to finish, and really picked it up in the third and fourth quarters, holding the Eagles to only 13 points in the second half.</p>

<p>Senior [player_tooltip player_id='991254' first='Kimora' last='Wright'] went to work on offense in the third, shifty in the lane and smooth at the rim. Wright added 11 points and 2 steals for the Millers, who led by 20 points at the start of the fourth.</p>

<p>The Millers extended their lead by the end of each frame and defeated the Eagles 56-31.</p>

<p>Springfield junior [player_tooltip player_id='925988' first='Sailor' last='Hall'] netted 11 points, including three three-pointers made. Freshman [player_tooltip player_id='1264922' first='Nuari' last='Filipe'] tallied 8 points and 9 rebounds.</p>

<p>Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1262077' first='Khloe' last='John'], off the bench, led Stayton in scoring with 9 points from three three-pointers. Junior [player_tooltip player_id='839071' first='Kathryn' last='Samek'] added 7 points, and Junior Zuri Andersen had 4 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 block.</p>

<p>Springfield followed up the statement win over Stayton by blowing out Churchill 70-13 in its first league game on Tuesday. The Millers are scheduled to host ranked rival Crater in a Midwestern League marquee matchup on January 30.</p>

<p>Stayton goes to Madras for a nonleague game on Friday before tipping off its first league game against 4A-ranked Cascade next week.</p>
