Argyle Showcase Top Scorers- Round One

I recently attended the Argyle Showcase in the New York/Vermont Border Region, an event that featured 16 high school teams competing in four brackets. Schools participating in the showcase represented New York Sections II, VII, and X. It was a great opportunity to see several players in action. Here is a recap of the top scorers.    McKenzie Johnson recently broke her school's single-game scoring record with a 50-point performance against Salem. Johnson also became Hartford's all-time leading scorer, breaking the previous mark of 1,413. Johnson is a five-year varsity player who averages 26.4 ppg. She scored 20 points on the first day of the showcase and 26 in her second game. Johnson showed unlimited shooting range from behind the 3-point arc. When defenders attempt to close out on her, Johnson utilizes a quick first step to attack the basket. She often draws contact and gets to the foul line, where she is a consistent shooter. Her long arms also make her an excellent rebounder and defender.     Ryan is only one of two Saratoga Catholic girls' players to eclipse the 1,000-point mark and became the Saints' all-time leading scorer this season. At the Argyle showcase, Ryan scored 23 points in her team's first day game and 33 points on the second day. Ryan showed the ability to be a three-level scorer. She is a consistent shooter, whether from 3-point range, the midrange, or under the basket. She exhibited a deep 3-point range off the dribble or the pass. Ryan can drive to the basket equally well with either hand. He body control in the paint makes her a strong finisher. Ryan is very unselfish and is an excellent passer with a high basketball IQ. Particularly when feeding the post. She is a fierce defender and rebounder.     Mykah Collier-Fisher fills up the stats sheet in a variety of ways. Collier-Fisher is a blue-collar player who does whatever it takes for her team to win. The skill that stands out the most is her defense. Collier-Fisher is a lockdown defender with superb anticipation. She can read where a pass is going before it is thrown which results in an abundance of steals. Collier-Fisher is a strong rebounder who plays bigger than her size. She can score when called upon, but doesn't need to score to impact a game. At the Argyle Showcase, she scored 10 points one night and 20 the next. However, most impressive was her 25 rebounds in two contests.     Paige Taylor is an under-the-radar prospect who has started to make her name known this season. At the Argyle Showcase, Taylor had every aspect of her game on display. When left open, Taylor showed that she is an accurate shooter from behind the arc. Taylor is aggressive to the basket, especially with her right hand. Perhaps the most impressive part of Taylor's game is her physicality. She is a powerful rebounder for her size and a physical defender.     Ava Cormie broke Argyle's single-game scoring record with 40 points recently in a win over Fort Edward. Impressive for only a sophomore. At the Argyle Showcase, Cormie showed off her 3-point shooting range, which is a strength of her game. Cormie is strong to the basket with her right hand and has the ability to power her way through defenders. She is an intelligent player who understands how to read the game. Having missed part of her freshman season a year ago, Cormie is only scratching the surface of how good she can be.
