As the high school regular season begins to wrap up, so does Breakdown's series of winter events. The Red River Showcase took place in Moorhead over the weekend, featuring 11 varsity matchups, four of which were girls games. Due to the event being just over 4 hours away from where I live in the Twin Cities, I caught up with the action via livestream. Just like last week, there were numerous standout performances, so I'll be breaking down the event's top performers in multiple parts. Here is part 1.

[player_tooltip player_id='478350' first='Kate' last='Amelotte'] – 2026 Guard, Wayzata (Creighton)

Amelotte (pictured above, right) and the Trojans put on another showstopping performance at the Red River Showcase, crossing the 100-point mark for the third time this month. The Creighton commit, who found her shot early in Friday's matchup against West Fargo Horace, also reached a major milestone, reaching the 1,000 point mark in the second half. Kate put up 18 points against the Hawks, scoring off of well timed cuts to the basket, offensive putbacks, and catch-and-shoot threes. When she wasn't looking to score, the Wayzata senior displayed her prowess in the passing department. Using her keen court vision, Amelotte found seams in the defense, allowing her to deliver the ball to just the right place.

[player_tooltip player_id='948888' first='Mallory' last='McBeth'] – 2028 Guard, Wayzata

After breaking into the Trojans rotation last season, McBeth (pictured above, left) has been a key component to the team's success this winter. At the Red River Showcase on Friday evening, the Wayzata sophomore gave an impressive offensive performance, particularly at the three-point line. Mallory found open looks from the perimeter throughout the contest, both in catch-and-shoot situations and by creating space off the bounce. The 5'10 guard drained four shots from beyond-the-arc, as well as several buckets in transition. She finished with 18 points in the matchup against West Fargo Horace. With just one more game remaining in the regular season, McBeth is heating up at just the right time.

[player_tooltip player_id='644100' first='Annika' last='Kieser'] – 2027 Guard, Wayzata

Averaging just over 12 points per game in her junior season, Kieser has been a consistent contributor for Wayzata this winter. In Friday's matchup against West Fargo Horace, the 5'10 guard stepped up in a big way, adding 18 points in the 104-70 win over the Hawks. Annika found much of her scoring on the defensive end. By pestering her opponents on the perimeter and jumping passing lanes to grab steals, the Trojans junior created an abundance of transition scoring opportunities. Kieser barreled down the floor and fought through contact at the rim, earning herself multiple trips to the charity stripe, where she shot 5-for-6.

Photo: Dean Kesler Breakdown Sports

[player_tooltip player_id='992415' first='Kyra' last='Swanson'] – 2028 Guard, Moorhead

Swanson (pictured above) shot the lights out of the gym in Saturday's matchup against Fargo South. The Moorhead sophomore showcased the consistency and range on her shot, knocking down a whopping six shots from well beyond the three-point line, most of which didn't even touch the rim. Kyra has the ability to get a shot off quickly, allowing her to get good looks with very little time or space. On the other end of the floor, the 5'6 guard put pressure on the perimeter, getting her hands in the passing lanes and using her physicality to disrupt her opponents. Swanson turned deflections into steals, allowing her to barrel down the court and draw contact in transition. She finished with a game-high 24 points against Fargo South.

[player_tooltip player_id='555488' first='Lakyn' last='Donnelly'] – 2028 Guard, West Fargo Horace

Given Donnelly's reputation as a dynamic two-way point guard, it's no surprise that she gave a standout performance at the Red River Showcase. The 5'6 guard was a pest on the defensive end. With quick feet, active hands, and the ability to think three steps ahead, Lakyn created havoc on the perimeter, picking up at least five steals. On offense, the Horace sophomore struggled to hit shots from the outside, but crashed the basket with relentless energy, allowing her to score off of her own misses. In the second half, Donnelly looked to attack the basket, using her speed and tight handle on the ball to get to the rim. She finished with 22 points against Wayzata.

[player_tooltip player_id='555487' first='Jordan' last='Christofferson'] – 2027 Forward, West Fargo Horace

The West Fargo Horace junior led the way for the Hawks on Friday, dropping 22 points against Wayzata. Christofferson brought the defensive intensity early, guarding the paint with her usual physical style of play. She fought for loose balls, made hustle plays, and dominated the defensive glass. On the other end of the floor, the 6'0 forward showcased her creativity when the ball was in her hands. On some possessions she stopped on a dime in transition for a pull-up jumper. On others Jordan backed down her defender, turning and finishing with a fadeaway in the midrange. As the third ranked prospect in North Dakota's class of 2027, there's no doubt that Christofferson will be instrumental in the upcoming postseason.
