Week of 2/2: Top Point Guards Viewed

As the season winds down, the games are becoming more intense and more meaningful. Several standouts have contributed to their teams' performances.

Here, I take a look at some of the top point guards that I viewed this week

This was my first look at the transfer sophomore point guard, and she made a strong impression. Sams plays with poise beyond her years, controls her pace, and never looks rushed. She showed the ability to knock down shots and manage the game, as shown by her game-high 10 assists. A very solid all-around point guard who is trending up and will make noise in Arizona moving forward.

Molinar had a very good all-around performance in the game that I viewed. Her game has always been mature, but it continues to elevate as she gains more experience. She controlled the tempo in the win over Hamilton and consistently put teammates in positions to get quality looks. Elleigh is a steady floor general who understands how to win.

First viewing for me, and I came away impressed. Smith brings a complete skill set at the point guard spot—she can handle, distribute, and defend at a high level. She plays scrappy on the ball, competes defensively, and also showed a nice touch from the perimeter. A tough, reliable guard who impacts the game in multiple ways.

Arguably the top freshman in the state, Jacobs showed why despite the Coyotes facing a tough Canyon View squad. She quarterbacked her team, consistently putting them in positions that created good three-point looks. Jacobs has a strong feel for the game and understands the attention she draws, using it to create opportunities for her teammates.

Another first-timer for me, and Bonnaha stood out with her command of the game. She's a very good ball handler who showed leadership against Arizona Lutheran Academy. Bonana also displayed deep shooting range, extending well beyond the arc. A confident senior guard who brings both control and shot-making to the game for her squad.
