The DIAA Basketball Tournament moved one step closer to crowning a champion as the quarterfinal round delivered a mix of statement wins, dominant defensive performances, and an underdog continuing its postseason surge. Top seeded Sanford eliminated defending champion Caravel Academy with a strong second half push, while Smyrna overwhelmed Concord with one of the most lopsided victories of the round. Ursuline kept its Cinderella run alive with a disciplined win over Howard, and St. Elizabeth advanced with a composed performance against Padua.

With the field now set, the Final Four will take place on March 10th, featuring No. 1 Stanford vs No. 4 Smyrna and No. 3 St. Elizabeth vs #15 Ursuline. Each team enters the semifinals with key players performing at a high level and confidence built from strong quarterfinal showings.

No. 1 Sanford def. Caravel Academy: 64-53

Sanford knocked off the defending champions with a balanced performance that showcased both offensive efficency and defensive discipline. The Warriors controlled the pace early and never allowed Caravel to establish a consistent scoring rhythm. Their ability to execute in the half court and convert key possessions helped them maintain separation throughout the second half. Strong rebounding an perimeter shooting allowed Sanford to dictate the style of play for much of the game. Even when Caravel attempted to close the gap, Sanford responded with timely baskets and defensive stops. The victory not oonly advances the top seed but also sends a message that Sanford is playing its best basketball at the right time.

Snow was a dominant presence in the paint and played a major role in Sanford controlling the interior. Her ability to establish position early in possessions created consistent scoring opportunities around the rim. She finished efficiently when the Warriors attacked the basket and used her size to draw defensive attention. That interior gravity opened perimeter looks for Sanford's guards throughout the game. Snow also contributed heavily on the glass, securing rebounds that prevented second-chance opportunities for Caravel. Defensively, she protected the paint and altered shots with her length and timing. Her physical play helped Sanford control the tempo and limit Caravel's inside scoring. Performances like this highlight why she remains one of the most impactful front court players in the state.

Adams provided Sanford with a major spark from the perimeter and played a key role in maintaining the team's offensive flow. Her ability to stretch the floor with outside shooting forced Caravel defenders to extend beyond the arc. When defenders closed out aggressively, Adams attacked off the dribble and created scoring opportunities in the lane. She showed strong decision making with the ball and consistently made the right reads in Sanford's offense. Adams also contributed in transition, pushing the tempo after defensive rebounds and helping Sanford generate easy points. On the defensive end, she pressured opposing guards and disrupted passing lanes. Her energy and confidence with the ball helped Sanford maintain momentum throughout the game. As Sanford heads to the semifinals, Adams perimeter shooting will remain a key factor.

No. 4 Smyrna def. No. 12 Concord: 61-27

Smyrna produced the most dominant win of the quarterfinal round, overwhelming Concord with a relentless defensive performance. The Eagles set the tone immediately by forcing turnovers and converting them into transition opportunities. Their defensive pressure prevented Concord from finding rhythm offensively and allowed Smyrna to build an early double digit lead. By halftime, the game had already begun to tilt heavily in Smyrna's favor. The Eagles continued to execute in the second half, maintaining intensity on both ends of the floor. Balanced scoring and disciplined defense ensured that Concord never threatened to close the gap. With the decisive win, Smyrna advances to face top seeded Sanford in what should be one of the most competitive matchups of the semifinals.

Burnette played a major role in Smyrna's offensive production and helped establish momentum early in the game. Her aggressive attacking style put constant pressure on Concord's defense. She repeatedly drove to the basket and finished through contact, generating scoring opportunities in the paint. Burnette also showed confidence in the mid-range game, knocking down shots when defenders were not applying enough pressure. Defensively, she was equally impactful, using her quickness to disrupt passing lanes and force turnovers. Those defensive plays often led directly to transition scoring opportunities for the Eagles. Her energy helped set the tone for Smyrna's intensity on both ends of the floor. Performances like this demonstrate why she remains one of Smyrna's most reliable offensive leaders.

Ellerbe brought versatility and athleticism to Smyrna's lineup throughout the game. She impacted the game in multiple ways, contributing as both a scorer and rebounder. Her ability to run the floor allowed Smyrna to capitalize on fast-break opportunities created by defensive pressure. In the half court, Ellerbe used her size to finish effectively near the basket. She also provided valuable defensive presence, contesting shots and helping control the paint. Her rebounding helped Smyrna maintain possession and limit Concord's second chance opportunities. Her all-around contributions played a significant role in Smyrna's dominant performance.

No. 15 Ursuline def. No. 7 Howard: 46-38

Ursuline continued its surprising postseason run with a strong defensive performance against Howard. Entering the tournament as the fifteenth seed, the Raiders have quickly become one of the bracket's biggest stories. Their disciplined defensive approach slowed Howard's offense and forced difficult scoring opportunities throughout the game. Ursuline also executed well in key possessions during the second half to maintain its lead. The Raiders showed composure under pressure and consistently made smart decisions with the ball. Their ability to control the pace proved critical in a game where ever possession mattered. With the victory, Ursuline advances to face St. Elizabeth to reach the championship.

Banks once again proved to be the engine behind Ursuline's offense. Her ball-handling ability and quick first step allowed her to break down defenders and create scoring opportunities. She consistently attacked the lane and either finished at the rim or drew help defenders. When defenses collapsed, Banks showed strong court vision by finding open teammates for scoring chances. Her leadership was also evident in how she controlled the tempo of the game. Defensively, she applied pressure on opposing guards and helped disrupt Howard's offensive rhythm. Bank's ability to contribute on both ends of the floor kept Ursuline competitive throughout the contest. The DIAA Basketball Tournament moved one step closer to crowning a champion as the quarterfinal round delivered a mix of statement wins, dominant defensive performances, and an underdog continuing its postseason surge. Ursuline kept its Cinderella run alive with a disciplined win over Howard, and St. Elizabeth advanced with a composed performance against Padua.
