<p>The roar of The Pit reached fever pitch on Saturday, March 14, 2026, as the Nusenda Credit Union Girls Basketball State Championships wrapped with two epic showdowns in Classes 5A and 1A. As college hoops insider Jon Rothstein put it: “We sleep in May.” But in New Mexico high school hoops? The Madness peaks right here!</p>   <p>From defensive clamps to explosive runs and breakout stars, here's every pulse-pounding detail from the grand finale.</p>   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Class 1A Championship – 10:00 a.m</h2>   <h4 class="wp-block-heading">No. 1 Logan Longhorns 48, No. 3 Roy/Mosquero Blue 36 (DEFENSIVE DOMINATION!)</h4>   <p>A classic title tilt between top seeds! The Logan Longhorns (26-4 entering, Coach Dustin Robertson) faced the defending champs Roy/Mosquero Blue (26-3, Coach Blair Clavel), whom they'd already beaten twice in the season series.</p>   <p>Fast-paced early, then locked-in intensity: three lead changes and four ties. The Longhorns unleashed a full-court press transitioning to man-to-man; The Blue countered with man and box-and-1 schemes.</p>   <p>Logan won the tip, but the Blue jumped ahead 8-4 after Q1. The Longhorns roared back with a 9-2 run early in Q2 (taking a brief lead), only for the Blue to close the half on a 12-6 surge — 22-19 Blue at the break.</p>   <p>The third quarter belonged to Logan: explosive energy and a 13-7 edge flipped it to 32-29 Longhorns lead entering the fourth. Then came the clampdown — suffocating full-court press held the Blue to a brutal 3/20 (15%) shooting in the second half!</p>   <p>Logan pulled away for the 48-36 victory, snapping the Blue's 19-game win streak while igniting their own 10-game heater.</p>   <p>Senior standout [player_tooltip player_id='893556' first='Desta' last='Rose'] was electric: game-high 17 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals — the speedy guard's only Longhorn in double figures, but unstoppable on both ends. Top-seeded Hobbs Eagles (28-2, Coach Joe Carpenter) clashed with Rio Rancho Rams (27-4, Coach Lori Mabrey) in a battle of titans.</p>   <p>The Eagles' tenacious press flowed into a 2-3 zone; the Rams fired back with man-to-man grit.</p>   <p>Hobbs won the tip and built an early 9-5 edge, but the Rams answered quickly. Q1 ended 14-10 Eagles. Trading blows in Q2 led to a 25-23 Rams halftime surprise.</p>   <p>Third quarter flip: The Eagles cranked the pressure, outscoring the Rams 21-14 to lead 44-39 after three. They never relinquished control, sealing a commanding 66-53 win.</p>   <p>Balanced Hobbs attack shone — four in double figures! Sophomore guard Kareli Rivera exploded off the bench (then started the second half): 18 points (14 in the half), 3 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals — game-changer impact!
