The Prep Ball Stars Midwest Challenge once again brought together some of the top talent from across Indiana and Illinois, showcasing high-level competition, elite athleticism, and future stars of girls basketball. This event featured some of the best players in the Midwest, and while I was not able to attend in person, I had the opportunity to watch the event online and still came away extremely impressed with the talent level that was on display throughout the showcase.

The Midwest Challenge has become one of the premier events for players looking to prove themselves against elite competition, and this year's Illinois group showed exactly why the state continues to produce some of the toughest and most skilled players in the country. From scoring ability to defensive intensity and overall feel for the game, Illinois talent made a major statement during the event.

This article highlights a few of the top Illinois performers who stood out and showed why they are among the top players to watch in the Class of 2026.

Tariya Wright was one of the most impressive players to watch throughout the event. Wright brought toughness, confidence, and a complete offensive package every time she stepped onto the floor. What immediately stands out about her game is the way she attacks with purpose. Whether she is getting downhill to the basket, creating space off the dribble, or knocking down shots from the perimeter, Wright plays with a high-level offensive mindset that keeps defenders uncomfortable.

Wright also showed strong leadership qualities during competition. She played with energy, communicated well, and consistently competed on both ends of the floor. Her ability to impact the game in multiple ways makes her one of the more exciting players in Illinois' 2026 class. She has the type of game that translates well at the next level because of her versatility and toughness.

One of the biggest things that stood out online was her confidence. Wright never looked rattled, even against strong competition. She embraced big moments and looked comfortable playing at a high pace. That competitive edge is something college coaches love to see.

Shania James showed why she is quickly becoming a name that people around the Midwest need to know. James brought a smooth and controlled style of play that made a major impact throughout the showcase. Her court awareness and basketball IQ were noticeable immediately, as she consistently made smart decisions with the basketball while also finding ways to create offense.

James has the ability to score in different ways, but what makes her dangerous is her patience and composure. She does not force the game. Instead, she lets the game come to her while still being aggressive when opportunities present themselves. That balance is difficult for young players to master, but James showed maturity in the way she handled pressure situations.

Defensively, she competed hard and stayed active, showing she can contribute on both sides of the floor. Her overall skill set and understanding of the game make her one of the top rising players in Illinois' 2026 class. Watching online, it was easy to see the impact she had every time she was involved in the action.

Lysa Jones was another standout who made her presence felt during the Prep Ball Stars Midwest Challenge. Jones brought intensity, athleticism, and a strong motor that consistently jumped off the screen. She played with aggression and confidence while competing against elite talent from across the Midwest.

Jones showed the ability to make winning plays in multiple areas of the game. Whether it was rebounding, defending, scoring in transition, or creating second-chance opportunities, she consistently found ways to impact possessions. Her energy level remained high throughout competition, and she looked determined every time she stepped on the floor.

Offensively, Jones showed flashes of versatility and the ability to attack defenses in different ways. Defensively, her effort and physicality helped her stand out. Players who compete with that level of intensity are always valuable, especially in showcase settings where effort and consistency can separate players from the pack.

Jones continues to establish herself as one of Illinois' top players in the 2026 class, and her performance at the Midwest Challenge only added to the growing attention surrounding her game.

Final Thoughts

The Prep Ball Stars Midwest Challenge once again proved why it is one of the top events in the Midwest for girls basketball talent. Illinois was heavily represented by players who not only showcased skill but also toughness, confidence, and competitiveness against elite competition.

Even though I was not able to attend in person, watching online still gave a clear look at the high-level talent that was on display. Players like Tariya Wright, Shania James, and Lysa Jones showed why Illinois basketball continues to rise and why the Class of 2026 has so much potential moving forward.

The future is extremely bright for these athletes, and performances like this continue to build excitement around Illinois girls basketball.
