Notable Performers on Day One of Battle in the Badger State

I spent my day up in Appleton watching some games at the select events tournament happening at the Champions Center. I saw a handful of players who stood out in the games I watched today, and before we close the day, we will look at a few prospects who stood out to me in their own ways. Let's look at a few standouts before day two tips off tomorrow morning.    The Amery guard had an excellent season this past winter and came into her own. The rising senior has the speed to beat her defender off the dribble and is comfortable operating with the ball in her hands. I thought she did a solid job getting to the basket and working through traffic to score in the paint. I also thought she was confident when she caught the ball on the perimeter and didn't hesitate to get her shot up when she had space.     The Sheybogan Falls native is a sizeable post player and had some impressive moments for her [program_tooltip program_id='713045' first='Wisconsin' last='Lakers'] team this season. Martin is also a kid who was willing to pass out of the post to get her teammates open looks on the perimeter when defenders crashed on her. I also thought she looked comfortable being physical when she had opportunities to work with her back to the basket.     Raymond had a solid morning game and made plays defensively. The Living Word Lutheran wing was active on that end and found ways to make plays on the ball. She was crucial in the late run that helped her team get back into the game, being aggressive defensively. She's an athletic kid who used her physical tools to help her team win a game without scoring 20 points. She will be a player to keep an eye on over the next handful of years.     The Albany/Monticello wing was among the most impressive young players I saw today. She played with a talented small-school program and played her role at a high level. However, today I learned more than I have over the past 12 months, which is fun for me. She looked comfortable offensively, scored from all three levels, and stayed composed under pressure. I was most impressed with her ability to get into the paint and score around the basket. I'm eager to see her play with her [program_tooltip program_id='713036' first='Wisconsin' last='Academy'] team again in this AAU season.
