We wrapped up the first day of the PGH Wisconsin State Tournament. There were a handful of players who had moments that stood out to me throughout the day in their own ways, and before I head to sleep, we'll look at a few of those players and talk about what they bring to the floor. We should have a fun day tomorrow, but let's look at some standouts from Saturday's action.

The future Pulaski guard is an undersized kid, but she made plays in the two games I saw her play. She reads the game well and doesn't make many mistakes with the ball in her hands. I also thought she had a solid-looking jumper. Even though she didn't get a bunch of shots to fall, she knows what a good shot is, the ball rotates well when she shoots it, and she doesn't force shots when they aren't there.

I hadn't seen Porter play before today, and she was impressive when I watched her play, and so was her [program_tooltip program_id='1230720' first='Team' last='Herro'] group as a whole, who I'm sure we'll talk about a lot as time goes on. Porter was solid on both ends of the floor and used her athleticism to make plays on either side of the ball. She has the motor to help her swing games early in her career if she earns minutes at Waunakee this coming winter.

The Deerfield guard helped create open looks almost every time down the floor in the first half of the game I saw Drobac play. She sees the floor well and seems to enjoy getting her teammates open shots whenever possible. Drobac helped her team get out to an early lead and nearly helped her group earn a comeback win in the second half of that game I watched. She can help make any group she plays for reach another level because she's on the floor.

The past few months have contained the best basketball I've ever seen Thompson play. She was a player I discussed before the weekend, and she looked excellent in the minutes I saw her play. She looked like she had a burst off the dribble, rebounded well, was physical around the basket, and even knocked down a three within the flow of her team's offense. She may be a player who coaches are surprised by if they see her play sometime in June or July.
