Point Guards with Promise

These girls know how to take care of the ball, defend, and make winning plays. Take a look at some of the top point guards in the 2027 class.    Megan is an All-District talent for the Trenton Tigers. She is one of the better guards in the region and does a lot for her squad. She has a nice looking shot that she uses to stretch the floor from behind the three-point line. She is usually good for 1-2 three-pointers each game. Her scoring ability is impressive for a smaller guard. She has a nice change of pace that allows her to slip past defenders. She plays hard and aggressive all game. Clarys is looking to work towards an All-Region selection in 26-27.     Smith is as steady of a point guard as they come. She doesn't get fazed or sped up by opponents and lines up in the big games. She is very smart on the floor. She doesn't force up shots and takes what the defense gives her. She is an exceptional passer who dices up zone defenses. Her passing ability makes LLM very difficult to zone. She is tough off of the bounce and has a nice touch on her floaters. Addison always seems to make the right play. It is easy to see why she was selected to the All-State team in 2025-2026.     Praus is the pride of Dickinson these past couple of seasons. She has been the steady piece in a rebuild effort and is on the edge of reaping the rewards of her hard work. Dickinson has suffered some lopsided losses these past two years, yet Abby still gets face-guarded. This is a testament to how good opposing coaches think she is. When she is able to get free from pressure, she is a deadly shooter with a quick release. I am hopeful that her hard work and perseverance pays off next season with a few more Maverick victories.     Rider plays great on and off of the ball. She is a quality guard who handles the ball well. She makes good decisions against press and trapping defenses. She avoids getting into trapping areas of the court and passes the ball to gain an advantage offensively. She has a quick release on her shot and can knock down the three. This allows her to use a good first-step and blow by defenders driving to the hoop. She is good on the defensive end as well. Her arms are long for her size and she uses them to her advantage to make things difficult for opposing teams.     Maddock is a standout guard for Benson County who has already racked up an impressive awards case. She is a State Champion from 2025, multi-year All-District and All-Region, and was selected to the 2026 All-State team. She is a gritty guard who plays with great tempo. Her on-ball defense is really impressive. She fights over ball-screens and keeps the ball out of the lane. Her ability to use ball-screens on the offensive side of the floor is equally impressive. She changes pace, gets close to the screener, and makes the right read on her way to the basket.     Ava is a reserve point guard that has starting abilities. She is a smaller player on the court but that doesn't affect her impact on the game. She defends hard and her lateral quickness is really impressive. She plays up in Legacy's press and creates a lot of turnovers due to her defensive efforts. She is a steady ball-handler and knows when to push the ball and when to bring it up slow. Once she is in the half-court, she is sneaky with her cuts. She reads teammates drives and cuts behind her defender for easy baskets. She is also good at playing off two feet and looking for teammates cutting to the bucket.
