Tomorrow, June will be upon us, which means it's almost time for the quarterly Summer rankings update. Now that 2026 is headed out, I will begin my focus on the Class of 2027. Over the next couple of days, the updated rankings and watch list will appear online, but in the meantime, I wanted to tip you off to some new names who will be joining the lists. This article covers four ladies labeled as either point guards or combo guards who will be new to the list when it's released later this week.

.

When I saw Aaliyah for the first time in-person about a month ago, I was very impressed with her play. She is strong/powerful at her size, she is aggressive to the basket, and she plays with a nice motor. She absorbs contact very well, she finishes softly with her left, and she has a solid mid-range pull-up. She makes enough 3-pointers to keep defenses honest, but I was actually intrigued by her vision and willingness to give it up to teammates in transition. I think she could be a quality scoring point guard at the next level.

Kihanna has been a joy to watch this Spring. Some of it is her quickness and playmaking ability, but as a coach, I really enjoy and appreciate her sense of situational basketball and her ability to change speeds. She also runs a team like a traditional point guard, and she finds her teammates who are making shots. Defensively, she has a water-bug type of feistiness to her, and she can get under them and cause problems. All in all, she is a talented small college prospect who should draw a great deal of attention this Summer.

Breelyn is a different type of player/prospect than Elwood has been used to in a while. She has helped them to consecutive double-digit win seasons, and while that might not sound like much, it has been a decade since they've seen even one season like that. She can shoot/score it from all over the floor, and she often needs to, but she also has point guard skill and is a more than willing distributor. She has length, quickness, and she plays with a nice motor, plus she's a solid on-ball defender. She averaged 17.9 points, 3.1 assists, and 5.0 steals as a Junior.

Ellie Mae is from tiny Lighthouse Christian in Bloomington, Indiana. They have actually only been an IHSAA member school for the last six seasons. Ellie Mae, however, is a stat sheet stuffer. She has already scored more than 1100 points in her career, and she has an outside shot at 500 career rebounds, plus 300 career assists and steals. This past Winter, she averaged 20.6 points, 3.4 assists, and 3.8 steals per game. She has some strength at her size, solid quickness, and she has a well-rounded skillset to go with a good understanding of the game.
