is quickly emerging as one of the more steady and effective point guards in the 2027 class. She brings a strong feel for the game at the lead guard position, showing an ability to control tempo, manage possessions, and keep her team organized throughout stretches of play.
What stands out most is her balance as a floor general. Mellanson is not just focused on facilitating—she is also willing to score when the opportunity presents itself. That dual threat makes her difficult to guard and allows Heritage Christian’s offense to stay more dynamic and unpredictable.
Her ability to operate with poise while still playing with an attacking mindset gives her value beyond her years, especially in summer competition where pace and decision-making are constantly tested. With a strong core returning, Heritage Christian has reason to believe it can make a deeper postseason run, and Mellanson’s continued growth at the point guard position will be a key factor in that trajectory moving forward.

Kihanna has been a joy to watch this Spring. Some of it is her quickness and playmaking ability, but as a coach, I really enjoy and appreciate her sense of situational basketball and her ability to change speeds. She also runs a team like a traditional point guard, and she finds her teammates who are making shots. Defensively, she has a water-bug type of feistiness to her, and she can get under them and cause problems. All in all, she is a talented small college prospect who should draw a great deal of attention this Summer.

Kihanna is a transplant from Texas, and she has done a great job of fitting in here in Indiana. She had a solid Winter with her Heritage Christian team, but she has had several really nice moments with her IGB team as well. She is quick and quick with the ball…has it on a string. She also understands tone and tempo, and she typically chooses the correct pace needed for the moment. She plays with her head up, scanning the floor, and she feeds the hot hand well. Plus, she is a problem defensively and really gets into/under opposing ballhandlers and makes them work.

Kihanna is a transplant from Texas who moved in at the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year. She is a traditional point guard prospect who plays with speed & quickness, but she does so by changing speeds very well. She plays with a nice pace to her game, she’s always scanning the floor looking for open teammates, and she recognizes when someone is in a rhythm and tries to get them the ball. She is good with the ball, she can knock down an open jumper as well, and she’s an intelligent defender who can use her talent or her understanding of the game to contribute.

Kihanna was one of two impactful newcomers at Heritage Christian this Winter, and she put together solid numbers. She came to Indiana from Texas, and she is an extremely quick/fast, feisty little guard who has the ball on a string. She can attack either direction, create for teammates, or find a variety of pull-ups and finishes around the basket. Additionally, she showed the ability to knock down the occasional 3-pointer, keeping defenses honest, but I was mostly impressed with her pace of play and her understanding of how to change speeds and add pauses in her attacks. She also defends well.

Kihanna, now playing in Indiana with IGB 17U S40, made a strong impression with her ability to score the basketball from the point guard position. She brings a scoring mindset while still understanding how to operate within the flow of the offense.
She does a great job moving without the ball and consistently capitalizes on open looks, knocking down shots with confidence. Off the dribble, Kihanna is creative when attacking the rim, using her footwork and touch to finish in a variety of ways, including a smooth fadeaway jumper.
Her scoring ability and creativity make her a tough matchup and a guard who can put pressure on defenses in multiple ways.

The first possession after tipoff, Mellanson had everyone in the gym oohing and ahhing with a crafty reverse finish to kiss the ball off of the glass. She uses her size to play larger than life and can sneak in for some impressive finishes. She plays with a motor and as a true point guard she feels at home with the ball in her hands.

Mellason falls into that #sizedontmatter group as well and her energy off the top placed her in that “never takes a play off” group. Her “on the ball” pressure helped create turnovers, and her quick hands did a slo yet she’s an athletic guard with a solid first step to attack and score or dish, she also saw the floor in the set but her “catch and shoot” from mid to long-range was solid
