Southern Arizona All Sophomore Second Team

These ladies showed out, many being key factors to their teams making playoff runs and securing region championships. Very unselfish player. Plays every possession with purpose. Adams averaged 5.6 points and 3.1 rebounds for the Lancers who will return their entire squad from this years talented team. Adams will be a much bigger factor for them to have similar success as they had this past season. A talented shooter who shot very well in the mid range and beyond the arc. Can out muscle bigger forwards in the post for rebounds and score the second chance bucket quickly. She saw more reps in the Thunderbolt rotation and was effective. She averaged 4.8 points and 3.5 rebounds per game and had her best game of the season against Walden Grove where she finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds. A disciplined shot blocker with a lengthy wing span who is very disruptive in the paint. Showed she can space the floor well with a dangerous three ball. Wood is becoming a more skilled dribbler who can attack the basket and score a variety of ways. I expect a breakout season for Wood this upcoming season for the Thunderbolts. She made the 6A South Region Second Team after averaging 4.9 points, 1.4 assists, 2.1 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game helping the Blue Devils secure another region championship. Ortiz is very strong on the defensive end. Terrific on ball defender who applies relentless pressure leading to turnovers. Expect Ortiz to be a major factor for the Blue Devils next season. She has the size and speed to effectively guard 1-4 and a wingspan that makes it very difficult to shoot over. Very strong on the defensive end deflecting passes and blocking shots. Skilled defender in the post, strong and physical when crashing the boards. Chavez had her best game of the season in a playoff loss to Sunrise Mountain where she finished with 20 points, 16 rebounds and 8 steals. I first saw Peterson at Section 7 back in June and loved the way she played. Terrific footwork, crashed the boards with purpose and just showed a great overall feel for the game. This season she averaged 3.9 points, 1.6 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks. She has good size and a great motor. Very effective on the floor setting strong screens and playing well in the pick and roll. She plays very aggressive and moves extremely well. Great defensive IQ, speed and skill making her extremely hard to get past for opposing guards. Makes great reads off ball, intercepting passes then burst past the defense scoring the layup on the other end. Plays with great confidence. Handles pressure extremely well. Adger played in a very talented rotation for the Lancers and was very effective on the court.
