Wasaren League: Under the Radar Prospects to Watch in 2026-2027

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Wasaren League is one of the top small-school leagues, not only in Section 2, but in the state of New York. Saratoga Catholic (Class D), Greenwich (Class C), and Mechanicville (Class B) all won sectional crowns. Greenwich advanced to the state championship game. Many top players in the league return next year, but there are even more who have flown under the radar. Darling is a lethal outside shooter with unlimited range. She is especially good off the catch and can knock down shots from any spot on the floor. Darling has a natural understanding of the game. She handles the ball well and has excellent court vision, which makes her a good passer. Darling can also rebound and score inside. She plays bigger than her size. If her freshman year is any indication, the sky is the limit for McMahon. McMahon is an outstanding shooter, especially from beyond the arc. She registered several games with multiple treys during the 2025-2026 season. Her numbers should only increase with experience. McMahon runs the floor well and finishes in transition. McMahon is a very good defender who creates lots of steals. Whitbeck is a three-level scorer who can put the ball in the hoop in a variety of ways. Whitbeck has a fantastic drop step move in the post. She can put the ball on the floor and drive past defenders. Whitbeck is a solid shooter. She can connect on shots around the lane, such as the elbow and foul line. Whitbeck can expand her range to the outer perimeter if left open. Crowe has the skills to become a phenomenal player. Crowe is a tireless worker on the boards. She posts up very well on the block. Dowd's role will likely increase next year as a junior. Dowd is an outstanding defensive player both on the ball and in the post. Her length is a major asset. Dowd has strong anticipation skills and is a very good shot blocker. Dowd has a soft shooting touch. She is very good in the midrange and can extend her range on occasion. Celani will play a much larger role next season after all five starters graduated from the Witches. Celani is a very fundamentally sound player. She is a solid defender who doesn't shy away from physical play. Celani has a very soft shooting touch and can knock down jumpers from long range. Celani moves and cuts well without the ball, which creates scoring chances. Celani rebounds well for her size because she is well schooled in the art of boxing out.
