Over the past two years, Nate Wickstrom and JD Andersen have put together a camp of 25 talented players, run them through skills workouts, and put them in a competitive environment. I've enjoyed attending the first two events they have put together, and I'm excited to see how they grow the event in the years to come. Over the next few days, I'll talk about some things I noticed from the players in attendance, what they showed through drills, some of the competitive drills, and short 5v5 games they played over the four hours in Mequon.

It was the first time I saw Hollins do any basketball activities since her knee injury over the winter, and she didn't force the issue too much, only participating in certain drills as she recovers. However, the quality in her game is still evident. Her skill is still there, and she looks comfortable doing what she was capable of doing at camp. However, the nice thing was seeing her doing some basketball activities again for the first time in months, and she seemed to enjoy herself.

Christian looked solid in the skills portion of camp to start things off, and she was the first player to improvise a finish around the basket instead of finishing with a fundamental layup. At face value, that doesn't seem like much, but I think it shows a lot of confidence to express herself around players she may not know as well as others. She also used her physicality well in the 5v5 portion at the end of camp.

There may have been some confusion for Alwin about what exactly she needed to do step-wise on some of the skill stuff early in the camp, or she just hadn't done it before. Regardless, I feel I learned about her personality through that. Alwin didn't get frustrated, played through mistakes, and adapted quickly. She's a quick learner and capable of improvising when needed. Mentally, she will be just fine playing high-level basketball at the next level, and clearly has the talent to excel against other talented players.

I thought Luehring was an even more fluid athlete than I had even thought heading into camp. She moved well and changed directions well in the skills portion of the event. However, I feel she was among the best scorers in some of the 1v1 drills that gave the offensive player a built-in advantage. She's so patient and can get to wherever she wants without expending too much effort.
