H-Town Havoc: 16U Paint Power

As basketball continues to develop into a modern tactical approach where players are not bound to traditional roles (ex: point guard or center), it's always nice to see players that have a skill set in the paint. With a greater focus being on outside shooting and versatile ball handlers, players that have moves in the paint have a more coveted skill set. Whether they were playing with their back to the baskets or owning the paint and making it hard for the opposition to duel with them the following players have intangible interior skills that set them apart.    Abram's height catches eyes, but what will turn heads and hold your attention is her competitiveness. Every time a shot goes up she is battling for rebounds on both ends of the floors. She's a work horse on the boards and this work ethic alone is sure to make her a highly sought after recruit. Only a rising freshman, she is a already displaying strong physicality as she is difficult to move off her spot inside. Physicality, balance and determination allow her to secure rebounds and she definitely caused havoc inside.     Tyson is an anchor for her defense inside by playing with an active presence on the low blocks, using timing and anticipation to make blocks that turn defense into offense and spark transition going the other way for her team. She provided impressive help-side defense by using her length when she rotated to alter shots, intercept passes and just overall make finishing in the paint difficult.     Hastings isn't necessarily a big but she's making this list for because of her display of fearlessness and finesse in the interior. She attacked the lane with patience and physicality and the patience allows her to work through defenders instead of trying to outrun them. Her strong frame allows her to absorb the contact while creating enough space to find room a pullup jumper in the paint.     Harris attacks the lane with confidence, using her strength and body control to get downhill before stopping on a dime for a balanced mid-range pull-up jumper. She plays at her own pace, absorbing contact without getting knocked off her line, and consistently creates quality scoring opportunities by combining physicality with polished shot creation.     Cable has a commanding presence and draws plenty of defensive attention every time she establishes position. Consistently posting with a low, wide base makes it difficult for defenders to push her off the block. Her physicality and willingness to battle inside give her team a consistent interior option.
