Scouting the Live Weekend: Prospect Observations

There was plenty of talent on display this weekend, and many of the biggest stories have yet to be written. We spent the weekend evaluating players at NXTPro while also keeping our ears to the ground on standout performances across the country. In this article, we highlight a collection of players who caught our attention, primarily from NXT Pro and the Inside Exposure events. As the week continues, we'll bring you more coverage, including in-depth evaluations from the final live period of the grassroots season.    Laila Williams was the driving force behind her team's offense on Saturday, before leaving the game due to injury. She consistently made plays with her aggressiveness and energy. She attacked the rim with confidence, using strong drives to put pressure on the defense and created scoring opportunities for herself and teammates. Her style of play stood out, as she competed both on the perimeter and inside without backing down. Despite playing in the backcourt, Laila battled for loose balls and rebounds, showing a willingness to do the dirty work. Her speed, quickness, and fluid movement allow her to impact the game on both ends of the court. She is quick with the ball in her hands, attacks the rim with confidence and purpose, and has the creativity to finish from difficult angles. Lee also has a reliable pull-up game in the midrange and is capable of stretching the defense from beyond the arc. What really separates Lee is her defensive presence. She has the foot speed to pressure the ball 94 feet, slides well laterally, and consistently stays in front of opposing guards. Her quick hands generate deflections, and she transitions seamlessly on switches without giving up an advantage. One of her most impressive traits is her high motor from beginning to end, rarely showing a drop-off in energy or effort. She consistently gave her team productive minutes at the center position. Mathurin competed with a relentless motor, battling inside from start to finish and rarely taking a play off. She did a good job of establishing a deep position on the block, giving herself quality scoring opportunities around the basket. Her hands immediately stood out as she snatched rebounds and secured passes cleanly in traffic. Mathurin played well, using her strength, footwork, and competitiveness to score through contact while drawing fouls and earning trips to the free-throw line. Her willingness to compete for the entire game and embrace the physical nature of the position was impressive to see.     [player_tooltip player_id='873449' first='Jahlaya' last='Wilson'] has made the most of the July live period, using her play to elevate her recruiting stock. While she has long been recognized for her defense, her increased consistency offensively has been one of the biggest developments in her game. That growth has not gone unnoticed, as the talented post has added several college offers over the past week. Defensively, Wilson anchors the paint with her timing and instincts, altering shots as both an on-ball defender and a help-side rim protector. Offensively, she continues to expand her game, showing improved touch on short jumpers, confidence in the midrange, and the ability to score with baby hooks around the basket. Her continued development on both ends of the floor has made her one of the rising post prospects in Florida's 2027 class.     [player_tooltip player_id='1231140' first='Ellayna' last='Stephens'] put together one of the more efficient performances of the day e, impacting the game as both a scorer and playmaker. Every time I looked up, Stephens was making a good play on the court. When penetrating the defense, she created quality opportunities for her teammates with timely, accurate passes. In the open court, her ball handling stood out, as she played with poise and confidence while keeping the offense flowing. Stephens' perimeter shooting was "all day money."
