New Jersey’s Next Wave of Backcourt Talent

These five young backcourt players have been putting together performances worth watching.

Riley is a confident shot-maker who excels in the mid-range and remains composed against heavy defensive pressure. She gets her shot off quickly before defenders can recover, attacks the free throw line area to exploit zone defenses, and creates separation off the dribble to knock down both mid-range jumpers and three-pointers.

Maddy is a poised floor general who plays with confidence on both ends of the court. She handles defensive pressure well, shoots the three confidently even with a light contest, and has terrific instincts defensively. Maddy consistently comes up with back-tap steals, rotates well in help defense, and always seems to be in the right place to force turnovers.

Katherine continues to impress with her ability to score efficiently and play at a high pace. She finishes well with either hand, especially her left, runs the floor hard in transition, and is difficult to stay in front of with the ball. Katherine also shoots the three well from the top of the key and the wings and recently turned in another strong performance with United NJ in Ohio.

Jordan takes tremendous pride in the defensive end of the floor. She defends aggressively both on the perimeter and around the basket, creates steals that quickly become transition points, and never gives up on a play. Jordan's relentless hustle stands out every time she steps on the court, and she'll soon bring that mentality to one of New Jersey's top programs at Caldwell.

Ava is a skilled scorer who has developed an excellent floater game, allowing her to finish over taller defenders with either hand. She defends the perimeter well, shoots comfortably from several feet beyond the three-point line, and has one of the smoother shooting strokes you'll find. Ava's combination of range and touch makes her a difficult matchup for opposing defenses.
