I have always said that each player is unique in their own way. Everyone is on their own journey. Many of us have the same goals, of course, but how our chapters are written are different.

So many kids these days spend countless hours in the gym to get better and hoping for that breakthrough opportunity to play at the next level. Some come quicker than most. However, we as scouts, coaches, parents, etc., may never know when the actual breakthrough will happen.

In the ‘27 class, I will say there is solid guard play throughout the state, especially from the point guard position. You and I may not agree on the same prospect, or we may have overlooked a kid (that happens a lot); however, each player who puts on a uniform and performs brings value to their squad.

Below are just a few kids on their own journeys. Their journey may be different from that of someone who lives in East Tennessee, southern Tennessee, or out west. The point is if you are a player who gets after it, keep doing what you do, and your opportunity will come.

Here are a few kids in the ‘27 class who are point guards and may have been overlooked.

Could slide over and play the two spot; this kid is always locked in when she is on the floor. Plays with poise, hunts great shot opportunities; when the ball is in her hands, good things tend to happen. Yes, she can fill it up from the perimeter, but what I love about her most is her temperament along with her passing ability to fit the ball into tight windows. She's a tough competitor who strives for greatness. Look for her to have a senior season where she and her teammates gear up for one last ride.

Has done nothing but get better over the years. Despite her size, she has put in the work and become an effective ballplayer. Known for her ability to launch from the arc, she has the speed and quickness to also get downhill and finish. She has put everyone on notice as she is playing with so much confidence. She and her teammates have come from a little-known program to a formidable one that's tough to beat. Look for her to compete on both ends and give Green Hill a fighting chance to go deep in the postseason.

Solid ballplayer who can distribute the rock. When she is on, she is on. A kid who can change pace at a moment's notice and attack the basket. She can hit shots from multiple spots, defend the full length of the court, and just flat out get after it. Keeps tabs on this young lady as she is destined for a great senior year.

Ms. Reliable. A kid who has put in the work and has come a long way to being a trusted lieutenant for her ball club. One who is a solid distributor, hits clutch shots, and is willing to get after it on the boards; she's a tough competitor who has molded her game. She plays the game hard. A hustler. A selfless leader who is willing to do whatever to help her ballclub. She is a smart ballplayer who knows what each of her teammates is expected to do. She has played many roles over the years, and this year will be the one where she steps up and takes the reins as a leader. Look for her to help her team deep contend for state this upcoming season.

Underrated and overlooked, this kid is going to be a steal for a program at the next level. She is a 3-level scoring threat who has a motor. When the ball is in her hands, she can attack, stop and pop, penetrate, and kick with the best of them. She is a super tough defender who causes havoc. One who loves to take on tough assignments and goes to work. Had a tremendous July on the NB circuit and showed out. Look for her to help Southside contend, and she will be one of the top ‘27s from the Jackson area this season.
