Sleepers to Look Out for at Sunday Showcases

Every showcase has a few players who enter the building somewhat under the radar but leave making a statement. Some may already have the talent but simply have not received the same exposure, while others are still beginning to emerge and make a name for themselves. This weekend's Freshman and Sophomore Showcases should introduce the State to some new talent. In this article, we take a look at some freshmen and sophomores who could be sleepers—young prospects with the talent and opportunity to turn some heads at the Freshman and Sophomore showcases.      [player_tooltip player_id='1379557' first='Brinkley' last='Todd'] is a point guard who could be a sleeper at the ID Camp. Todd has a solid skill set and can make plays with the ball in her hands. She can shoot it, handle the ball, create scoring opportunities, and get her teammates involved. Todd has a good feel for running the point and can impact the game without having to dominate the basketball. Her combination of scoring, passing, and leadership gives her the tools to be a tone-setter and playmaker at the ID Camp. Todd may enter the showcase somewhat under the radar, but she has the skill set and playmaking ability to leave with plenty of people knowing her name.     [player_tooltip player_id='1261307' first='Zoe' last='Haywood'] could be one of the sleepers in the building. She is an energetic guard who plays with toughness, a strong motor, and excellent defensive instincts. Haywood anticipates plays well, disrupts passing lanes, pressures ball handlers, and creates turnovers. She also competes for loose balls and generates extra possessions with her hustle. Offensively, Haywood attacks the rim aggressively and embraces contact, consistently putting pressure on the defense. Her ability to impact both ends of the floor could allow her to turn heads and emerge as one of the showcase's surprise standouts.     [player_tooltip player_id='1851330' first='Gabrielle' last='Promise'] has the potential to be one of the best young shooters in the building. Promise has a very smooth three-point shot and the ability to get going quickly from the perimeter. At the most recent showcase, she relied more on attacking and getting to the rim, showing another dimension to her offensive game. That versatility makes her intriguing because she can put pressure on a defense from both the perimeter and off the dribble. Promise could be one of the sleepers at the showcase, and if her outside shot starts falling early, she has the ability to set the tone and turn some heads.     [player_tooltip player_id='1355809' first='Brynlee' last='Fassett'] might be one of the top young shooters in the building. She could be considered a sleeper from an exposure standpoint, but there is nothing under the radar about her ability to shoot the basketball. Fassett can flat-out shoot it from the perimeter and stood out with her shooting at the PGH event in Wellington. She brings good size to the shooting guard position, giving her an advantage over smaller guards.. Fassett may enter the showcase without as much name recognition as some players in the field, but her ability to knock down shots could have her walking away as one of the more talked-about players in the building.     [player_tooltip player_id='1806977' first='Bryanna' last='Baker'] is another player who could emerge as a sleeper at the showcase with her combination of athleticism, speed, and power. Baker is at her best when she gets downhill and attacks the rim, using her strength and quickness to put pressure on the defense. She also excels in transition, where her speed allows her to get out in the open floor and make plays. Baker can also knock down the three when given space, showcasing her offensive game. She was another standout at the PGH event in Wellington, and her combination of athleticism, attacking ability, and versatility gives her a chance to be one of the sleepers at the Freshman Showcase.
