Undervalued, Overlooked: 2028 Forwards

I didn't even play the position, and just the thought of the value this position brings excites me. When I think of this position, I think about the versatility these athletes must have to play this position. They have to be one who can grind down low but also spread the floor and do work. Their attributes and contributions are all over the board, but to be an effective player at this position, you have to have not only a selfless attitude but also a dawg mentality.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>We have some pretty good 4s in the state. We all know who the top-of-the-top girls are in this position. Geez, those girls are dominant, and the way they play is pure difference-making. Also, we have some who are often overlooked because of the talent on the floor. Many say basketball is a guard's game, but then, too, you hear that if you have a dominant big, you control the game. No one ever says anything if you have a dynamic 4; what does that bring? Personally, it brings a world of difference.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In this class, we have some pretty good 4s that are often overlooked. Today, I will be talking about a handful (yes, there is more) that, in my opinion, are difference makers when they are on the floor. But that mentality carries over to the hardwood as well. This kid is a beast on the boards and a powerful force to be reckoned with. Yes, she can stretch the floor, but her ability to do work on the inside makes it a tough outing. She's a talented kid who gets into the head of opponents and brings physicality to the party. She's a difference maker, and one coach has to game plan for. She has the size and length to stretch the floor and shoot from the outside, and to contribute inside the arc as well. Does a great job rebounding the basketball. Though she is a quiet individual, she brings a loud presence to the floor and can go on a streak that changes the momentum of the ballgame in an instant. This season she will play a bigger role for her club. This kid can compete inside, play with her back to the basket, and exploit the mid-range. She's a solid screener and really knows how to use her body to pin the defender on the backside and create clean looks. She has developed into a solid 3-point shooter who can stretch the floor as well. An often-overlooked attribute of hers is her passing ability. She has a great feel for whether a double team is coming, knows where the open teammate is, and delivers on time. She is solid on the boards. A kid who plays with a lot of heart and passion. She isn't going to score or put up big-time numbers in the scoring column because her numbers will be mostly in the assists and rebounding columns. This kid is selfless and can be a difference-maker. She can play with her back to the basket and knock down the 3-ball. I mentioned it earlier; it's her rebounding ability and hustle that truly sets her apart. Add in her defensive ability, and she is a solid two-way player who is willing to be physical and compete. She's nice from deep, swishing the net more oftentimes than not. I love her ability to rebound, eliminating second-chance opportunities for teams. She is a hardworking player who gets after it. Look for her to help McKenzie take the next step, and for her to become a top player in their district.
