Adrian College Prospect Camp: Team MVPs

Adrian College hosted its Prospect Camp this past Sunday, giving players an opportunity to compete in front of the coaching staff while getting a feel for the program. The camp featured a variety of drills led by the Adrian coaching staff before finishing with 5v5 action, where the players were split into Team Blue and Team Pink and coached by members of the Adrian College women's basketball team. After the 5v5 games wrapped up, I asked the college players coaching each team to select two MVPs based on what they saw from their group. That gave me four Team MVPs from the day, and each made an impression in different ways throughout the camp. Let's take a closer look at the four players who earned MVP honors from their player-coaches.    Kendall put together a strong showing at the Adrian College Prospect Camp and was selected by her player-coach as one of Team Blue's MVPs after helping her team come away with the win during 5v5 action. The post player did a great job establishing herself inside, sealing her defender to create good position and showing strong hands and solid footwork around the rim. She also showed she could finish through contact, converting a tough and-one during 5v5. Kendall made an impact on the defensive end as well, playing solid post defense and using her timing to come away with blocks. Her offensive game extended beyond the paint, as she showed a smooth mid-range jumper and shot the ball well from both mid-range and behind the arc during the shooting drills. Her combination of interior play, shooting touch, and defensive presence made for a well-rounded performance and helped earn her Team Blue MVP honors.     Kira showed her versatility throughout the Adrian College Prospect Camp and was selected by her player-coach as one of Team Blue's MVPs. The long wing showed she could be effective from several spots on the floor, using her size to seal her defender in the paint and create good position inside. She showed nice touch with a turnaround jumper that was difficult to defend, while also displaying her ability to score away from the basket with a smooth mid-range jumper and a three from the corner. Kira's length was also an asset on the defensive end, where she used it to bother opponents and make plays more difficult. Her ability to score inside, from the mid-range, and behind the arc, along with the versatility her length provides defensively, helped earn her Team Blue MVP honors.     Gabby made her presence felt in the paint throughout the Adrian College Prospect Camp and was selected by her player-coach as one of Team Pink's MVPs. The post player did a great job making herself available inside, consistently calling for the ball and working to establish position. What impressed me was her ability to recognize the defense once she received it. When multiple defenders came her way, Gabby didn't force the action and instead did a nice job kicking the ball out to an open shooter. She was active on the glass, rebounding well and using her strength to absorb contact around the basket. Gabby also showed a nice touch with a mid-range jumper, adding another element to her offensive game. Defensively, she provided a strong presence around the rim, recording multiple blocks during the 3v3 drills and continuing to protect the paint throughout the camp. Her rebounding, interior presence, passing awareness, and ability to impact the game defensively helped earn her Team Pink MVP honors.     Nicole's quickness, playmaking, and ability to impact both ends of the floor helped earn her MVP honors for Team Pink at the Adrian College Prospect Camp. The guard showed a quick first step and a strong handle, allowing her to consistently get by her defender and put pressure on the defense off the dribble. Nicole did an excellent job attacking the lane, drawing multiple defenders, and recognizing when to get the ball to an open teammate. Her court vision was on display throughout the camp, as she played with her head up and made good reads when the defense collapsed. She also showed she could make defenses pay from the perimeter, knocking down shots from behind the arc. On the other end, Nicole competed defensively and made things difficult for her matchup. Her combination of quickness, ball handling, perimeter shooting, court vision, and ability to create for others made her a well-rounded presence for Team Pink and helped earn her MVP honors.
