PGH Freshman Showcase: Competitive Resiliency on Display

The Freshman Showcase spotlighted the next generation of student-athletes whose unrelenting work ethic sets them apart. Throughout the event, the players dictated the game's energy by imposing their will on both ends of the floor and showing the skill to perform under pressure.

Melo put together a highly physical, dominant performance on both ends of the floor, and she is in my top 2 performers in the Freshman showcase. She repeatedly overpowered her defender to finish tough, old-fashioned three-point plays (AND 1) at the rim. On the perimeter, she steps back and knocks down deep three-pointers with ease. She supplements her scoring by hunting down tough rebounds and showing an eagerness to engage in the low post. Defensively, she kept her defender in front of her at all times, dove on the floor for loose balls, and served as a force to be reckoned with. [player_tooltip player_id='1865451' first='Kalee' last='Melo'] is THAT GIRL!

Gallman dominated the paint with elite rebounding and by occupying space inside. By consistently establishing deep post position, she generated high-percentage scoring opportunities right at the rim. Her excellent vision out of the post also let her routinely find the open player when defenses collapsed.

Tenison has exceptional anticipatory instincts, allowing her to generate live-ball steals and clean blocks. On offense, she moved effectively to create several good looks at the basket. She was active on defense and contributed to her team's overall effort every time she played.

Nardo secured a couple of rebounds, giving her team extra possessions. Her attention to detail on the glass prevented opponents from getting additional chances. She paired that disciplined rebounding with solid overall defense throughout the game.
