PGH Sophomore ID Camp: Team 11 evaluations, part 1

Last week we covered the best of the best from the Prep Girls Hoops Freshman Showcase. This week we're back for more with our second event of the month; the PGH Sophomore ID Camp. The event, which was held at Maple Grove Middle School on Sunday, featured more than 100 players from around Minnesota. We saw great performances from some familiar faces, while others crossed our path for the first time. PGH scouts Grant McGinnis, Tony Ragulen, Paxyn Rendahl and I were on site all afternoon and will be breaking down the highlights one team at a time. Here is Team 11, part 1.    First crossing our radar back in June, Johnson (pictured above) left a distinct impression on us when we watched her play with the [program_tooltip program_id='712700' first='Minnesota' last='Suns'] this summer. This week at the Sophomore ID Camp, she turned things up another notch. Now standing at 5'10, Ingrid's ample length, speed, and ability to elevate over defenders give her several advantages in terms of athleticism. But what really stood out on Sunday was the sheer effort she brings on each possession. The Minnetonka sophomore was highly active on the glass, read the defense to find openings to attack the basket, and made hustle plays that ultimately led to extra possessions for her team. It looks like the Skippers have yet another hidden gem on their hands.     Following another strong summer with [program_tooltip program_id='713021' first='West' last='Central United'], Karlgaard was one Team 11's top performers on Sunday. Quick, bouncy, and light on her feet, the 5'7 guard used that athleticism to her advantage on the defensive end, creating a disruptive force out on the perimeter. As she often does, Sophia made plenty of hustle plays too. The Detroit Lakes sophomore didn't hesitate to force a turnover, save a ball from going out of bounds, and was always the first to get on the ground and fight for a loose ball. Just as effective on the offensive end, we're suspecting Karlgaard will put up some big numbers for the Lakers this season.     We've seen plenty of growth in Arndt's game since we first watched her play last summer with the [program_tooltip program_id='714566' first='Minnesota' last='Stars']. Despite getting off to a bit of a slow start at the Sophomore ID Camp, the 5'10 forward still found plenty of ways to make an impact for Team 11. All throughout the event, Morgan spaced the floor, set ball screens and created movement away from the ball, and looked for openings in the defense to attack the basket. On defense it was her rebounding that was the biggest difference maker. After carving out a spot in the varsity rotation at Stewartville last winter, Arndt is likely to find a much larger role with the young Tigers squad this winter.     Amos' performance on Sunday demonstrated a fair bit of potential. At 5'9, the [program_tooltip program_id='712689' first='Minnesota' last='Heat'] guard brought plenty of size to the backcourt for Team 11. While she wasn't the quickest player in the gym, she continuously found ways to keep the offense moving, whether through backdoor cuts or screens on the ball. When the ball was in her hands Natalie was eager to look for her shot. The Roseville sophomore didn't hesitate to let the ball fly from the perimeter, but also wasn't afraid to get downhill and lean into contact at the rim. With multiple graduations freeing up some room on the roster, Amos will have plenty of opportunity to make her way into the Raiders' rotation this season.
