Ranked 2029 Prospects from Section 2

With high school basketball just around the corner, Prep Girls Hoops recently updated the New York 2029 rankings. 35 players are currently ranked. Only two Section 2 players made the top group, but several others are on the Watch List, waiting to move into the rankings. Here is a look at the top New York 2029 prospects from Section 2.    [player_tooltip player_id='1378947' first='Aaliyah' last='Douglas'] is a player for Albany High School who makes a profound impact on a game, whether she scores or not. Douglas is a gifted athlete who excels defensively. She protects the basket with her elite shot-blocking skills. Douglas has a keen sense of anticipation coupled with a high motor, which allows her to create multiple steals per game. She runs the floor extremely well, creating easy scoring opportunities. When Douglas receives the ball on the block or hauls in an offensive rebound, she is nearly impossible to stop. As her offensive skills develop, her stock will continue to soar.     I recently watched [player_tooltip player_id='1871470' first='Molly' last='Shaver'] play at the "Battle of New York" event at the Impact Athletic Center. Despite missing a couple of her key teammates, she was still impressive. Shaver is a lethal shooter from beyond the 3-point arc. Her range is unlimited, and her footwork when squaring up for a shot is outstanding; she had a lightning-quick release. Shaver is a solid ball-handler and beats defenders off the dribble. She has excellent court vision to find teammates for easy buckets.     [player_tooltip player_id='1814790' first='Charlotte' last='Baroody'] is a talented overall athlete whose stock is rising quickly. Baroody can knock down the 3-point shot when left open. She runs the floor well and is a strong finisher in transition. Baroody can put the ball on the floor and beat defenders off the dribble. She moves very well without the ball and understands how to cut to the basket to get open. Baroody is an outstanding defender and has strong instincts for the ball. Baroody may be just scratching the surface of how good she can be.     [player_tooltip player_id='1871455' first='Sandra' last='Cirilla'] is an impressive young player for Schalmont. Cirilla is a three-level scorer who can put the ball in the bucket in several ways. She is outstanding at creating her own shot opportunities, always playing downhill and looking to get to the rim. Cirilla understands how to navigate defenders and attack the hoop off the bounce. Cirilla is an outstanding ball handler. She is a very good shooter from behind the arc from every spot on the floor. Her range is unlimited, often connecting on shots from a few feet behind the 3-point. The sky is the limit for this explosive natural scorer.     I saw [player_tooltip player_id='1871454' first='Holly' last='Hirsch'] play on several occasions during the offseason, and she continues to grab my attention. Hirsch is a tremendous athlete who plays multiple sports. Hirsch is an exceptional shooter both behind the arc and in the midrange. She can shoot equally well off the catch or off the dribble. Hirsch has a solid handle, excellent court vision, and always seems to find the open player. She runs the floor well and is a strong finisher on the break. I expect to see Hirsch rise above the Watch List and into the rankings this winter.     I saw [player_tooltip player_id='1884352' first='Avery' last='Ostrander'] play in-person for the first time this summer at the "Battle of New York," and she didn't disappoint. Ostrander is the prototypical scoring point guard. She can do it all, playing the 1 or 2 spots equally well. Ostrander is a superb ball-handler and understands how to direct an offense. Ostrander has tremendous court vision with a high IQ and is a very good passer who finds teammates for open looks. She can also defend multiple positions. Ostrander can score in a variety of ways, whether from 3-point range, attacking the rim off the dribble, or running the floor on the break.
